The holiday-themed artwork is a result of the partnership between Netflix and The Film Foundation, in which Netflix supports The Film Foundation?s efforts in film preservation and film education. As part of the partnership, Netflix has made a charitable donation as well. Chief marketing officer for Netflix, Leslie Kilgore, said, ?the red mailer, which is one of the most visible expressions of our brand, is a natural way to showcase our partnership with the Film Foundation and express our holiday spirit. Its gratifying for us to support the important work of The Film Foundation, which, like Netflix, is committed to preserving the heritage of film and helping it find new audiences.?

Jennifer Ahn, managing director of The Film Foundation added, ?The Film Foundation?s partnership with Netflix is an innovative way to create public awareness about the importance of film preservation. The mailers will communicate our message to a large national audience. We?re very pleased that Orlando Bloom, a good friend of the foundation, could join us as we celebrate the holiday season with this special program.?

To bring their artwork to life, the artists contributed much of their individual personalities and feelings about the holiday season. While Mr. Scorsese worked with his young daughter, Francesca to create a unique snowflake themed mailer, Mr. DiCaprio created a beautiful, sturdy tree complete with festive decorations in a multi-cultural array of symbols and icons. Ms. Theron provided two pieces, one an imaginative snowman with a gray hat and embossed red heart, and another of colorfully wrapped holiday presents. Peter Jackson painted a classically themed canvas with two pugs donned in Santa hats and a holiday pheasant bursting out of gift-wrap paper. Mr. Bloom?s canvas portrays two hands offering hearts in the spirit of the holiday season.

The Film Foundation is the most prominent non-profit organization dedicated to film preservation. Established in 1999 by Martin Scorsese and a distinguished group of fellow filmmakers, the foundation?s main goal is to protect our cinematic heritage by providing substantial annual funding to film archives for the preservation and restoration of a broad range of films. The Film Foundation also creates educational programs and public events that promote awareness of the need for preservation. At the very heart of these efforts is The Story of Movies project, an interdisciplinary curriculum that teaches young people about the cultural, artistic, and historical significance of film, and enables them to better understand the language of the film and visual images.
