John_O__Hurley_Dancing_with_the_Stars.jpgJohn O’Hurley sure is a busy guy. Where other people would be happy to have cemented their place in pop culture in the unforgettable role of J. Peterman on the TV series “Seinfeld” as well as the overall champion of the first season of? “Dancing with the Stars”, he’s moved on to a new set of duties. He’s now back on TV with as host of?the Dick Clark Production “TV’s Funniest Bloopers” on ABC as well as the nationally syndicated “Family Feud”. And further plumping up his resume, John now debuts as an author with the book “It’s Okay to Miss the Bed on the First Jump”, a collection of lessons gleaned from a life spent with man’s best friend (Hudson Street press, November 7th, 2006), which has already reached #17 on the New York Times Best-Seller list and is climbing fast.?

For anyone who’s enjoyed John O’Hurley’s acclaimed and popular TV roles, “It’s Okay to Miss the Bed on the First Jump: And Other Life Lessons I Learned from Dogs” will strike a welcome and familiar chord. TV audiences will recognize John’s humor and passion, and they’ll also recall John’s previous professional experience with canines as host of NBC’s “National Dog Show”. But chances are they have no idea how deeply these furry friends have affected John throughout his life.

John_O__Hurley.jpgFrom his childhood in New England to his current life in Los Angeles, John has enjoyed the valuable counsel of dogs. There was Taffy, the darling dachshund who taught John how to listen, and Betty, the dachshund/Lab mix with whom he learned to take chances in life. Also, for 15 years, John turned to the faithful Schoshi, a Maltese who bestowed major lessons: enjoy every minute of your life, don’t be afraid of confrontation, and take every nap possible. These moving and hilarious memories will ring true with dog lovers and comedy fans alike.

Taffy, Betty, and Schoshi should be proud of their student. Of course, his TV credits are as varied as the actor himself. His 12 years on daytime television form the basis of his acting career, which eventually went on to include roles on “Frasier”, “The X-Files” and “Melrose Place”.? John’s voice can also be heard on popular cartoons such as “SpongeBob SquarePants” and “Kim Possible”.

In addition to his iconic TV roles, John’s resume includes roles on film and the stage. He has recently appeared on the silver screen in the Jessica Simpson/Lionsgate film “Employee of the Month”, and he starred in “Race to Space” alongside Val Kilmer. On stage, he’s appeared on Broadway in “Chicago” in the role of Billy Flynn. Other starring credits include national tours of “Pirates of Penzance”, “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes” and “Brigadoon”. Away from the cameras and the limelight, John indulges in his passion for golf, playing on the John_O__Hurley1.jpgCelebrity Players Tour and other events. He supports charities such as Golfers Against Cancer. He has also been included as one of People Magazine?s ?Sexiest Men Alive?.

John O’Hurley has certainly made you laugh, and he’s made you cheer. And now, he makes you think – and laugh (again) – with “It’s Okay to Miss the Bed on the First Jump”. Partly a memoir and partly a puppy tribute, John’s book is entirely a fun read.
