Music Center December 8th Deadline Extention for Spotlight Visual Arts Applications Awards

You still have a chance to get in! The applications deadline for the?Visual Arts categories of the Music Center of Los Angeles County?s 19th Annual Music Center Spotlight Awards has been extended.

These applications must be online or mailed by Friday, December 8, 2006. Applicants to the free program is open to all high school students attending at the time of the deadline in either Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego, Santa Barbara and Ventura Counties.

Photography & two-dimensional design are the Visual Arts categories.? Besides possible cash awards (plus the opportunity to be showcased in a Southern California gallery), winners get $6, 000 & runner-ups $3,000) but all Visual Arts participants get wonderful invitations to both museum tours and master classes.

Founded in 1988 and now one of the nation?s most acclaimed performing and visual arts educational programs for teens, the Music Center Spotlight Awards program has naturally launched numerous professional careers. Among those are 14 Presidential Scholars who were finalists. Many more have joined or performed with professional companies, including the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, American Ballet Theatre, Metropolitan Opera, Boston Symphony Orchestra and the New York Philharmonic.??????

Founding chairman of the Music Center Spotlight Awards is Fredric M. Roberts while Dennis Beck is chairman and Walter Grauman the creator/executive producer. A project of the Fraternity of Friends, a male volunteer membership organization of the Music Center supporters.?

The principal sponser of the Award is Bank of America, but the program has other supporters such as the Max H. Gluck Foundation, the Dorothy B. Chandler Program Fund, the Walter Lantz Foundation, Eloise C. Goodhew Barnett, the Young Foundation, the James B. Pendleton Foundation, and the Claire and Theodore Morse Foundation. Scholarship awards in the performing arts catagories for the winners & runners-up are generously provided by Helen and Peter Bing.
