True love set against unimaginable odds, the desires of the few versus the greed and power of the many, such are but a few words that could describe Joe Tornatore’s amazing horror-romance “Immortally Yours”, which premied to an elated, fairly large audience at the historic Fine Arts Theater in Beverly Hills last Friday evening.

Written by and starring Katherine Hawkes, the film centers mainly around two unordinary characters, each part of two distinct worlds unknown to each other and the desires of each frought by the realities of their own lives, along with obstacles brought on by others determined to achieve their own goals without regard for any other. Alex Stone (played by former Beastmaster star Daniel Goddard)  is a charming, quiet young man. Softspoken and with a respect for the arts, he leads a life of darkness (literally) as the leader of a vampire group concealed within the shadows of society, although Alex himself has long desired the more finer things in life, he is trapped by the role he plays in his group and the very nature of his being as a vampire preying on the flesh of others – a quintessential ‘beast’ as stated by one of the characters in the film.

However, for all that Alex is, his life takes a dramatic turn when he meets Estelle (Katherine Hawkes), a woman of a higher class and a higher life Alex feared he may never achieve due to the life he leads. Through various odds and obstacles lying along their way, the couple struggles to keep their love alive while Alex searches for a way to end the life he lead before and start a new as a regular human being. Among the difficulties ahead of them are the symbolic evils of greed and corruption, embodied by and represented through mob-boss leader Steven Miles (Martin Kove) and corporate business tycoon Victor Price (Eric Etebari) – the leader of the Illuminati – a secret society of the world’s wealthiest individuals committed to waging war, poverty or any other disaster for the sake of business and earning a profit.

The film premiered to an anxious audience, and was formally announced by Director Joe Tornatore, who then greeted and acknowledged the actors present in the audience. The opening scene – a vicious attack by a pair of vampires -seemed to be among the most dramatic in the film, as the sound effects intricately played into the dialogue and action of the characters, adding an extra chill to the movie and further captivating the audience. The music (by Godron McGhie) was also a memorable part of the film, more specfically in a scene in which Alex appears to express his love and appreciation for the arts with the background music beautifully adding onto the film’s overall entertaintment aspect. Audience members shrieked, laughed and cheered as they were taken from one world to another through each part of the story, eventually ending with a much deserved applause as the movie came to a close.

Immortally Yours features an all-star cast of actors and actresses, most of them film and television veterans with extensive professional backgrounds in the industry, and is a film that is very much made for vampire fans, or anyone interested in a good, heartfelt love story with a little action and drama finely mixed into the plot.
