1_029.jpgSome people enjoy dressing up for Halloween, but there is an industry in Los Angeles that caters to dressing up people all year around. Using molds, latex, special makeup and other mysterious tricks of the trade, those in the Special Effects industry are able to take a regular person and transform them into amazing and sometimes nightmarish masterpiece. Every year Jeff Colbert, one of the founders and owners of Motion Picture F/X, throws a huge Monster Bash extravaganza to give the hardworking men and women of the special effects industry a night to take a break from making up television and movie stars up and have a moment in the spotlight for themselves.

The night took place at Santa Monica?s hot nightspot, Gotham Hall. This was no ordinary1_027.jpg Halloween party! The costumes were outrageous, ranging from a dead Dorothy with half of her face eaten away by a tornado, to Crypt Keepers and fantastic ghouls and stunning movie creatures. Stephen Kings ?It? grooved on the dance floor with Davy Jones from The Pirates of the Caribbean to Goth rock band The Ghastly Ones.

Collectively, the crew from the Motion Picture F/X team have worked on dozens of high budget movie and 1_005.jpgtelevision shows. You might recognize some of their work on movies such as Team America, Dracula, The Ring and Big Mama?s House 2. They have even made up casts from Charmed and That?s So Raven. On top of all their many projects, Motion Picture F/X also runs a makeup school for those interested in joining in the fun and excitement of the special effects industry.

All in all, it was a great night to be out and an even better one to be in the special effects industry. For more information on the makeup classes Motion Picture F/X hosts or on the company itself, visit www.fxschool.com.
