Executive Chef  of Nove Italiano

Chef Geno Bernardo, 34, was born in New York to a northern Italian mother and Sicilian father. His rich Italian heritage has always been an inspiration to him, and his fondest childhood memories are of cooking with “Nana” as a young boy. Those early Sundays with Nana were the humble beginnings of his lifelong journey through the culinary world.

Early Makings of a Chef

Bernardo began his professional career at just 16, cooking at Massimo’s, an Italian restaurant in his New Jersey neighborhood. These early experiences fueled the passion that first emerged in Nana’s kitchen. The aspiring chef attended culinary school at prestigious Johnson & Wales University, in Providence, Rhode Island, from which he graduated at the top of his class. After graduation, he was recruited by Boston’s Fellini’s Italian Restaurant, where he worked two years before accepting a position with Restaurant Associates in New York. Cooking at the company’s Café Centro and Naples 45, he was received by a loyal clientele and critical acclaim. The hallmarks of Bernardo’s style are the thoughtful use of the freshest fish and finest seasonal produce.

Italian to Japanese

His affinity for seafood led him to San Diego, where he boldly broke from his Italian heritage to learn the craft of a sushi chef. At Sushi on the Rock, Bernardo’s efforts were rewarded, as the restaurant was voted “Best Sushi in San Diego.” Armed with an appreciation for Japanese discipline and aesthetics, he returned to Western cooking as Sous Chef at Sally’s on the Waterfront at the Grand Manchester Hyatt before serving as Senior Sous Chef at the Marriott Hotel San Diego. For Bernardo’s first Executive Chef position, he returned to Rhode Island to run the kitchen at the Providence Oyster Bar, which opened to outstanding reviews and enthusiastic public response. When the Oyster Bar owners debuted a steakhouse, Providence Prime, they tapped Bernardo to serve as their Executive Chef.

Bernardo Goes to Vegas

Bernardo joined the N9NE Group to develop Nove Italiano, and with Bernardo in the kitchen, Nove Italiano is slated to be one of Las Vegas’s most acclaimed Italian restaurants. Just as N9NE Steakhouse, the group’s original restaurant concept, revolutionized the American steakhouse, Nove Italiano redefines Italian dining. Bernardo collaborated with Chef Michael Kornick, N9NE Group’s James Beard-nominated consulting chef and partner, and N9NE Group Executive Chef Barry Dakake to create the menu for the restaurant located on the 51st floor of the Fantasy Tower at the Palms Casino Resort. Oodles of celebrities all decked out and bedazzled in sparkling jewels literally shined at The Palazzo Las Vegas and Simon G’s Spring Bling on May 30th, 2009, benefiting the Lili Claire Foundation. This uber-chic outdoor affair, held next door to The Venetian, the world’s largest five-diamond resort, at The Palazzo’s Azure Pool was hosted by the beautiful Vanessa Minnillo of “Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer”, and the always-classy Kris Jenner of “Keeping up with the Kardashians”.

An exclusive pool-side fashion show hosted by LA-based designer David Alexander, who graciously styled all the celebs, and special performances by Sara Bareilles and Colby O’Donis, made this Spring festivity one to truly savor. Other celebrities in attendance included Bethenny Frankel, Khloe Kardashian, Holly Madison, Brittny Gastineau, Lacey Schwimmer, Shari Belefonte, DJ Chuck, American Idol alum, Chikezie, and Annie Wersching. Vanessa Minnillo and Kris Jenner both wore designs by David Alexander and jewelry by Simon G.

Fashion designer David Alexander’s newest collection, “The Furious Phantoms”, is reminiscent of the classic 1920s with a special twist, incorporating David’s signature aesthetic of custom cut Swarovski crystal encrusted pieces. The collection, which is sponsored by Ka Wang Holdings and DomizianoArcangeli , is inspired by the cohesion of structure and shape, molding together in one perfect anthology collection, that is ultimately expressed through a theatrical storytelling of the reemergence of the ghosts of glamour’s past. Bethenny Frankel of “The Real Housewives of New York City” spent the afternoon lounging in her private cabana at The Palazzo’s elegant Azure Pool while dining on a lobster salad from Wolfgang Puck’s exclusive Azure poolside menu.

Meanwhile, Khloe Kardashian excitedly shopped at Barney’s The Shoppes at The Palazzo, where she eventually settled on picking up a lovely black mesh Alexander Wang dress and Christian Louboutin heels… She later wore both to the Spring Bling. Once she entered the event, she smilingly slinked down the catwalk which wrapped around the Azure Pool in an exclusive design by David Alexander and made a quick change back into her Alexander Wang dress afterwards.

Adorably, just before that, long-time friends Khloe Kardashian and Brittny Gastineau gave each other huge bear hugs before walking down the red carpet. Neither knew the other was going to be there and both were pleasantly surprised to be reunited.

During a truly beautiful and moving moment, American Idol star, Chikezie, honored the Lili Claire Foundation with a one-of-a-kind performance with a Lili Claire child. However, not to be outdone, Sara Bareilles nicely rounded out the musical evening with a special performance of her hits “Love Song”and “Bottle It Up”.

ALL-4-ONE, Grammy-Award winning, multi-platinum selling group, performed their world premiere performance of their new single “My Child” at the event.

Brittny Gastineau certainly had a great time at the Spring Bling and was even spotted dancing on the ledge of The Palazzo’s Azure pool while Colby O’Donis was performed with Bethenny Frankel. Bethenny Frankel later whispered to Brittny Gastineau that “this is the nicest, classiest event” she has attended in ages.

The caterer Dos Caminos served delicious tastes of a scrumptious modern Mexican cuisine, which included Alaskan King Crab Sope, Ancho Seared Tuna Tostadita, Smoked Duck Tortas, Squash Blossom Relleno, Ceviche and Filet Mignon Alambre, the restaurant’s famed guacamole, and a special signature “Spring Bling” margarita.

Furthermore, although an unusual Vegas spring shower softly sprinkled the celebs as they watched the David Alexander fashion show, it failed to dampen anyone’s spirits. No one seemed to mind the drizzle and Vanessa Minnillo even exclaimed “The rain, the wind…it’s kind of sexy!”

Later Lacey Schwimmer of “Dancing with the Stars” put rumors of a relationship with Jack Ass star Steve-O to rest as she spent the evening dancing and getting cozy with her new boyfriend, Paula Abdul back-up dancer, John Derek Guthri. Lacey even sat on his lap during the VIP reception in The Palazzo’s exclusive Chairman’s Suite. She mentioned that she will most likely be dancing with Donny Osmond in next season’s “Dancing with the Stars” because he requested her as a partner. Lacey absolutely fell in love with The Palazzo property and kept saying how she couldn’t wait to come back in a few months and celebrate her 21st birthday in Vegas at The Palazzo!

A special raffle was held at the event for many one-of-a-kind items including several jewelry pieces designed exclusively for Simon G. by David Alexander, a Palazzo vacation including two nights in a luxury suite, dinner for two at Dos Caminos and two tickets to Jersey Boys, and an extraordinary week in Tahiti donated by Legends Resort and Air Tahiti Nui. All proceeds from the raffle also benefited the Lili Claire Foundation.

For the past four years, The Lili Claire Foundation has been successfully operating their Las Vegas Family Resource Center in partnership with (University of Nevada School of Medicine) UNSOM. The foundation also provides a training ground for pediatric residents, hosts behavioral and Autism clinics, and supplies a home for the Clark County School District’s genetics clinic. All of the Lili Claire Foundation’s programs and services in Nevada are provided free of charge to the community. 12-time Las Vegas Entertainer of the Year Danny Gans

In February of 2009, Gans debuted his award-winning show at the new Encore Theater. Prior to his engagement at Encore, Gans spent eight years performing in his own 1,250-seat theater at the Mirage, which Steve Wynn originally built for Gans.
 
Gans began performing in Las Vegas at The Stratosphere and The Rio after 15 years traveling throughout the U.S., working at his craft and perfecting his repertoire of impressions. He became one of the most sought-after performers in the prestigious corporate world, often playing to stadium-sized crowds for major, international companies such as IBM and McDonald’s and was the favorite of the Fortune 500 list.
 
In 1995 Danny was starring on Broadway in his one-man show and performing 200 concert dates a year. When the opportunity presented itself, Gans chose to move his show to Las Vegas where he could settle down to a life with his family.
 
Gans hadn’t planned to be an entertainer. His boyhood dream was to play third base for the Los Angeles Dodgers and, after high school, he was drafted by the Kansas City Royals. The Chicago White Sox drafted Gans after college, where he was an All American at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Two years later, his life long dream came true as he signed that contract and went to the minor leagues to start his career as a professional athlete. Not long after a career-ending injury turned his life upside-down.
 
With love and encouragement from his friends and family, Gans shifted his focus from baseball to entertainment. He was blessed with a marvelous singing voice, the ability to make people laugh and a rare presence that would manifest itself throughout his career.

Detailed elements of Encore have been derived from history and cultures from all over the world. Thomas traveled the world to procure the design elements signature to Encore. It is home to countless antique, vintage and custom pieces. Inspiration for many of the spaces was found in art history, ancient history and mythology, for example:

The sculpted interpretation of the goddess Daphne; created under the direction of Thomas, which the entire piece is gilded. It is accompanied by a laurel tree, representative of the laurel leaf Apollo wore in his hair as a display of his love and affection for Daphne. The theme of the laurel leaf is carried throughout Encore and can be found in gilded sconces, bronze leaves and other design details reminiscent of their story.

The pocket doors in the Baccarat lounge at Encore are adorned with a peacock motif embroidered in silk and metallic gold thread on gold and green silk. The images are borrowed from designs by James Abbott McNeill Whistler, an American-born, British-based artist who created the Peacock Room, which was deconstructed and is currently in the collection of the Freer Gallery of Art at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C.

The Host Lounge, located adjacent to the casino floor, was modeled after the Temple of Dendur, a Nubian temple built by the Roman governor of Egypt, Petronius, around 15 BC, which Thomas once saw on display at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. He used the arrangement of its columns and rooms as an inspiration for the space at Encore, which is adorned with one of a kind, hand-knotted Tibetan wool carpets.

EMI Music has confirmed the DVD release of the feature-length documentary “All Together Now” on Capitol/Apple Corps. Ltd. The DVD will be available in U.S. stores exclusively at Best Buy and at the LOVE Boutique at the Mirage hotel in Las Vegas. The documentary details the story behind the unique partnership between the Beatles and Cirque du Soleil that resulted in the creation and 2006 launch of LOVE, the stage production still playing to packed houses at the Mirage in Las Vegas, and the experimental Beatles soundscape album of the same name which garnered two Grammy Awards for producers Sir George and Giles Martin. The film is dedicated to the memory of Neil Aspinall, former CEO of Apple/Corps and an Executive Producer of the DVD.

“All Together Now” faithfully recounts how the LOVE project came into being, borne from the personal friendship between George Harrison and Cirque du Soleil founder Guy Laliberte. George saw how the twin talents of the Beatles’ music and the artistry of Cirque du Soleil’s artistry could be fused into something new and totally original.

The director of the DVD, Adrian Wills, traveled between London, Montreal, and Las Vegas recording the early meetings between Cirque du Soleil & Apple Corps. Ltd. creative teams, as well as filming the contributions from Sir Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, along with Yoko Ono Lennon and Olivia Harrison discussing how the Beatles’ music can be used in a different way. Noting the uniqueness of these interactions Wills explains, “What surprised me the most was how human the whole process was.”

These early stages of the project were all filmed, as were the first rehearsals at the Mirage Hotel theatre in Las Vegas, which was completely rebuilt with a one-of-a-kind sound system and complex round staging to house the LOVE show. Sir George and Giles Martin, the show’s Musical Directors, were involved every step of the way with the remarkable Cirque du Soleil creative team, performers and backroom staff.

It wasn’t all “plain-sailing” and there has been no attempt to disguise some of the disagreements that took place along the way regarding how some of the songs would be portrayed visually. These creative differences, a necessary part of the overall process of bringing LOVE to its most vibrant life, illustrate the participants’ love and respect for the music and vision of The Beatles.

In addition to their roles within the main film, Sir George and Giles Martin, along with engineer Paul Hicks, are also highlighted in a bonus feature titled, “Changing the Music”, which reveals in fascinating depth how the music was created and the challenges they faced. They explain how they sourced some of the individuals instruments and effects and how they were encouraged to experiment with the music.

Chef Charlie Trotter

Discovering his love for food in college (where he studied Political Science), Charlie Trotter began his career in the restaurant business as a waiter. He voraciously read cookbooks, began cooking for his friends and eventually began catering parties. After graduation, Charlie traveled around the U.S. and Europe experiencing all the best restaurants. He had found his calling. 

Upon returning from his travels, Trotter went back to catering and trained under some of the best chefs at Sinclair’s in Chicago. For over 20 years, the restaurant has dedicated itself to excellence in the culinary arts. Charlie Trotter’s Restaurant is innovative and progressive in the world of food and wine and has been instrumental in establishing new standards for fine dining. Charlie eventually opened his own restaurant, aptly named Charlie Trotter’s, which has wowed his Chicago patrons for over twenty years and has been touted as one of the best restaurants in the country.

His innovation and progressive attitude has earned him numerous national  and international awards and recognitions from prestigious institutions. Charlie Trotter’s was inducted into the Relais & Chateaux in 1995 and became a member of Traditions & Qualité in 1998. It has also made the prestigious Gayot’s Top 40 US Restaurants list every year since 2004. He also produces a line of private label organic products, has written 14 cookbooks, wrote three management books.

Not only is Charlie Trotter a renowned chef, but he is also a respected philanthropist. Although he never attended culinary school himself, Charlie has established the Charlie Trotter Culinary Education Foundation, which gives out scholarships to students entering culinary programs. He also founded the Excellence Program, allowing high school students to come in and experience his cuisine, while also talking to and learning from his staff. 

For his work with his Culinary Foundation, Chef Trotter has received awards at the White House from President George Bush and Colin Powell and was named one of only five “heroes” to be honored by Colin Powell’s charity, America’s Promise. In 2005, Chef Trotter was also awarded the Humanitarian of the Year award by the International Association of Culinary Professionals for his overall service to the community.

Formerly known as Corsa Cucina, the Italian eatery Stratta has opened in the Wynn Las Vegas. Offering a casual, yet electric atmosphere, Stratta is the latest premier restaurant offering by famed chef Alessandro Stratta.

Coming to the Wynn Las Vegas (where Alessandro is also the executive chef of their 5-star restaurant Alex) from Renoir at the Mirage Hotel and Casino, Alessandro stated, “I am delighted to have such consistent success at Wynn. Stratta The Chef
Alessandro Stratta is a fifth generation culinary artist and has lived in the finest hotels around the world. After working in some of those hotel kitchens, Stratta discovered his passion for the profession and enrolled in the California Culinary Academy. While in school he was given the opportunity to work in the kitchen of San Francisco’s Stanford Court Hotel under the supervision of Pastry Chef Jim Dodge.

Upon graduation with high honors, Stratta went on to work under Chef Alain Ducasse at the opening of the Louis XV at the Hotel de Paris in Monaco. After two years honing his craft in the Louis XV kitchen, Alessandro returned to the states to work with Daniel Boulad at New York’s Le Cirque restaurant.

After these life changing and career building experiences, Stratta was chosen to head Mary Elaine’s, which is a gourmet restaurant in the world class Phoenician Resort in Scottsdale, AZ. Under his direction, Mary Elaine’s was named a “Top Dining Destination” by the James Beard Foundation.

The Story of KÀ
Creator and director Robert Lepage describes the story of KÀ as "the coming of age of a young man and a young woman through their encounters with love, conflict and the duality of KÀ, the fire that can unite or separate, destroy or illuminate."

The title of the production KÀ is inspired by the ancient Egyptian concept of the KÀ, an invisible spiritual duplicate of the body that accompanies every human being through this life and into the next. As a young set of Imperial twins (one male and one female) become separated and hunted by Archers and Spearmen, each artist displays their impressive climbing abilities as their characters scramble to safety.

On their individual adventures, the twin brother learns to use shadow puppets to great emotional effect, while the twin sister finds herself in a majestic forest where she encounters colorful creatures on bungees and swing poles. While all this is occurring, the Archer’s Den is filled with captives who perform on the Wheel of Death where they display jaw-dropping acts of physicality.

The culmination of the twin’s adventure takes place on an enormous vertical stage featuring a unique aerial view where video projections react to the artists’ touch while the adversaries spin through the air in a captivating display of acrobatics.

Cirque du Soleil
This visually stunning and theatrical experience began in 1984 with a group of 20 street performers. Cirque du Soleil grew into the international production it is now by entertaining over 70 million spectators in 200 cities on five continents. The Show
Opening in April of 2005, “Le Rêve” is made up of an international cast of at least 80 entertainers who perform amazing feats of athleticism. The New Theatre Design
In order to properly showcase the incredible show they put on, the environment of the “Le Rêve” Theatre, has been completely remodeled providing a warmer atmosphere complete with the most luxurious seats on Las Vegas Boulevard. The intimate setting ensures no audience member is more than 12 rows from the stage, allowing guests to be truly engaged in the performance while letting their imaginations flow. The Creative Team Behind the Marvel
Created by Franco Dragone, “Le Rêve” is chock full of innovative entertainment and visually stunning elements. The theater’s interior was destined by Mark Fisher, world-renowned architect, and Roger Thomas, executive vice president of design for Wynn Resorts. Tony Award-winning lighting designers Jules Fisher and Peggy Eisenhauer, with the team from their company Third Eye Ltd, created an entirely new lighting design and Maksim Chmerkovskiy from “Dancing with the Stars”, choreographed three dance scenes, including “Tango”, “Paso Doble” and “Piece Montèe”.

Recognized for popularizing the Northern Italian style of cooking in L.A., while attracting a loyal celebrity clientele, AGO is celebrating its tenth anniversary in the City of Angels. The opening of their new location marks De Niro and Sciandri’s first venture in Las Vegas, with plans for a New York opening as well. The Festivities 

With a star studded line up of talent, Planet Hollywood will definitely be the place to see and be seen this weekend in Vegas.  Kicking things off on Friday, Robert Earl’s good friend and Planet Hollywood partner, Bruce Willis will perform with the Bruce Willis Blues Band in the Mezz Theatre.
