Southern California residents looking for the best way to entertain out-of-town holiday guests need only look up in the sky for the answer. Airship Ventures Zeppelin Eureka, the only commercial passenger airship flying in the United States, will be offering luxury flightseeing tours of Southern California from Long Beach Nov. 19-23 with new routes and holiday savings, and more flights available when Eureka returns in January, 2010. Christmas gift idea anyone?

The exhillarating view from the Zeppelin Eureka.

Stretching 15-feet longer than a 747 and 50-feet longer than the largest blimp, Eureka is the world’s largest airship. One of only three Zeppelins currently operating in the world, Eureka offers passengers spectacular 360-degree views of the sights on flightseeing tours above Los Angeles, as well as San Francisco Bay, Silicon Valley and Monterrey.

Unforgettable Family Memories

“As much as the holidays are about togetherness, anyone who has ever hosted a holiday knows the moment of panic when the inevitable question, ‘what am I going to do with everyone?’ crosses their mind,” remarked Airship Ventures Co-Founder and CEO Alexandra Hall. “I’ve yet to meet a passenger who didn’t get off of our airship grinning from ear-to-ear. Gathering family and friends together to experience a one-of-a-kind aerial tour aboard Eureka is a great way to entertain guests and create unforgettable memories.”

Only Female Zeppelin Pilot

The Zeppelin Eureka Airship signature grin.

Flying Eureka into the peaceful skies safely is pilot Katharine Board. Kate holds several distinctions, including being a member of an elite group even more rare than female astronauts — female airship pilots. Kate however, holds an even more prestigious title – - the only female Zeppelin pilot in the world. From her first instruction flight at the age of 18, Kate has risen fast in the male-dominated world of airships. One of her first aviation positions, with Virgin Hot Air Balloon flights, led to her first airship position, with Virgin Lightships. Beginning as a ground crewman, she eventually worked her way up to pilot, and has CAA, LBA and FAA commercial airship licenses. Kate has flown extensively in Europe and America, logging more than 5,000 flight hours. At 5-feet 2-inches tall, she effortlessly commands the largest airship in the world.

The only female Zeppelin pilot in the world, Kate Board.

Holiday Savings

As part of jumpstarting the holiday season, Airship Ventures, which celebrated its one-year anniversary of service in October, will be continuing a month-long celebration of this milestone by re-offering its most popular promotion while in Long Beach. Just in time for holiday gift-giving and family outings, passengers who buy one ticket at full price will save 50 percent on a second. This promotional rate applies to all regularly priced Long Beach tours between Nov. 19-23, as well as to all gift certificates bought before Nov. 30.

“Like floating in a luxury skybox on a cloud,” as one passenger described it, Airship Ventures flightseeing tours offer passengers spectacular 360-degree views of the scenery below. In addition to popular one- and two-hour Los Angeles-area routes showcasing either the dramatic Pacific Coast, or historic L.A. landmarks and famous Tinseltown icons, Airship Ventures will for the first time offer 30-minute and night flights from Long Beach in November.

Taste of Zeppelin Tours

The 30-minute Taste of Zeppelin tours will give passengers the opportunity to experience a luxury flight in a Zeppelin airship above scenic Long Beach Harbor and to enjoy the stunning Pacific and California Coastline views stretching out before them. One-hour Night Time Tour passengers will also enjoy the leisurely luxury of airship travel while marveling at the inky black Pacific Ocean meeting the shoreline and admiring the glittering city below.

The Zeppelin Airship cockpit.

Night Tours

“By adding our Night Tour and Taste of Zeppelin flights to the roster of tours we offer passengers in Southern California, we feel like we can truly say there is an experience for everyone. Whether you’re flying on an airship to help fulfill your bucket list, looking for the ultimate romantic date, celebrating a special occasion, or just wanting to have a great time with family and friends this holiday season, you will find that on Eureka,” continued Hall.

Coastal Tour

For those seeking the ultimate Zeppelin experience, a limited number of seats remain on our California Airship Cruises between Long Beach and the San Francisco Bay Area. Soaring above the California Coastline and Central Valley, these 8-hour cruises follow Highway 1 on Nov. 24 (northbound) as Eureka travels to-and-from Long Beach from her home base at Moffett Field near San Francisco.

About Airship Ventures, Inc.

Founded in 2007 in California, Airship Ventures, Inc., operates the only passenger airship operation in the United States, featuring Eureka, the world’s largest airship. The Zeppelin’s spacious cabin comfortably accommodates one pilot, one flight attendant, and 12 passengers, with luxury features including oversized panoramic windows, an onboard restroom with window, and a 180-degree rear observation window and “love seat” that wraps the entire aft of the cabin.

The Land of Enchantment, specifically the city of Santa Fe, illuminated Los Angeles with all its culture, beauty, art, and recreation last week at the Taste of Santa Fe. The Santa Fe Convention & Visitors Bureau and a coalition of city businesses brought the luxurious event, Taste of Santa Fe, to the recently remodeled Hotel Shangri-La in Santa Monica last Wednesday, October 28th. Los Angeles tastemakers sipped on fresh fruit margaritas poolside while enjoying art, music, theater, dance, and food to raise awareness about the city’s 400th Anniversary, to encourage more meetings to be held in the city, and to mark the beginning of direct air service between LAX and Santa Fe on American Eagle in mid-November.

Alluring Santa Fe

Juan Siddi Flamenco Theatre performed a stunning dance number filled with color and passion. Two-time Grammy Award Winning Native American Flutist Robert Mirabel gave a beautiful performance while guests experienced Santa Fe cooking demos, indigenous spa treatments, viewed world class art from local artists, pottery demonstrations and a film showcase . Representatives from Santa Fe’s most exquisite and luxurious boutiques and hotels were there showing southwestern fashions and services. Hundreds of the Los Angeles area press, meeting planners, tour operators, travel agents, and members of the film industry turned out for the sensational 5-hour, experiential open house event.

“Los Angeles is one of Santa Fe’s most important leisure travel markets in addition to being a national media market and film center,” said Santa Fe CVB Executive Director Keith Toler. “By providing hands-on Santa Fe experiences we think the LA media and the city’s travel and film professionals will come away with a better idea of what Santa Fe has to offer and, in turn, result in more visitors, meetings, and films coming to the city. This has been an excellent collaboration between public agencies and Santa Fe’s various business groups and is a model for working together in the future, especially our partnership with IATSE 480.”

In the heart of Palm Desert, with a spectacular mountain backdrop, is a year-round vacation oasis designed for both families and golfers alike: The beautiful, comfortable and upscale Marriott Shadow Ridge resort. The 312 acre lush Marriott Vacation Club property features elegant and well-appointed villas, beautiful pools, innovative water play areas, an eighteen-hole Nick Faldo-designed championship golf course, the Faldo Golf Institute, a water slide, tennis courts and childrens’ activities center….all within an easy drive from the Greater Los Angeles area. Welcome to Palm Desert. The perfect vacation awaits.

Beyond Expectations

Much more than a simple hotel room, Marriott Shadow Ridge distinguishes itself as a home away from home with its beautifully-decorated one and two bedroom vacation villas designed to meet every need. Rolling fairways, breathtaking mountains, and glittering pools are seen from many of the villas, all of which have comfortable balconies or terraces for complete relaxation. Marriott Vacation Club resort has left no stone unturned for those pursuing the ultimate in vacations.

Separate Living / Eating Areas

The villas accentuate their uniqueness with:

• Gorgeous, fully equipped kitchens with tile floors
• Separate living and dining areas
• Luxurious beds with mattress toppers, 300 count thread sheets and down comforters
• Multiple flat screen televisions with DVD players
• Wi-Fi internet access
• Washers/dryers
• Gas fireplaces
• Eye-catching décor throughout

From families seeking adventure, individuals looking to just relax or avid golfers wanting to try their hand at a Faldo-designed course, Marriott Shadow Ridge fulfills every need.

Family Fun

Families will find no lack of things to do at Marriott’s Shadow Ridge. The family-oriented pools excite kids with a fun water slide and water play area, complete with water-dumping buckets, animal-shaped squirt guns and a faux beach entry. Comfortable lounge chairs and cabanas beckon adults, and families can enjoy movies while floating in the pool. Water aerobics and a fully-equipped exercise room and sauna help fitness-minded individuals stay healthy, and there is an “adult” pool for complete relaxation and quiet.

The indoor activity room keeps kids and teens busy with an arcade, games, crafts and a mini movie theater, as well as an outdoor playground. There is no need to even leave the resort to eat. On property is Nick Faldo’s Bar and Grill, Chuckwalla Pool Grill, Snakebites Bar & Grill, The Marketplace Store and Deli, and Cielo’s Pizza delivery. The resort also sports barbeque grills for fun cookouts.

In close proximity to the resort are restaurants, fast food, big box retailers, and movie theaters, in addition to well-known family excursions such as the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway, Knott’s Soak City Water Park, Children’s Discovery Museum of the Desert, The Rapids Water Slide and the Palm Springs Air Museum. There is always something to do in the Palm Springs/Palm Desert area.

Golfing Extraordinaire

With 350 days of sunshine a year, the Nick Faldo designed championship golf course is ready whenever visitors are. The 18-hole course is beautifully maintained and showcases spectacular views of the Santa Rosa Mountains. Lakes and sand lots are interspersed with the greens, and the gorgeous clubhouse offers a pro shop. To improve your game, the Faldo Golf Institute serves up the latest in golf instruction.

Nick Faldo-Designed Golf Course

The New and The Innovative

The Marriott Shadow Ridge unveiled their latest design with their 73 two bedroom, two bath villas averaging a generous 1,320 square feet. The new additions are stylishly decorated with granite countertops, custom cabinetry, stainless steel appliances, as well as luxurious bedding, flat-panel TVs, DVD players, gas fireplaces, and private balconies.

The newest feature is a unique “lock off” function that allows the villas in essence to become two completely separate units (read more about the new lock offs in our interview with Marriott’s Ed Kinney, below). Each gorgeous unit has its own living area, bedroom, bathroom, balcony, and full kitchen or kitchenette, perfect for large families or those with teens.

Full Kitchen with Gorgeous Styling

Guests and owners hail the new villas as “contemporary” and “high end”. They describe the ambience as having an “uplifting” feeling. Elements of this new layout and design are also being implemented at three Florida-area Marriot Vacation Club resorts currently under development.

With the latest villa additions, this gem in the desert has 497 total units. Upon final build-out, the resort is proposed to have 984 luxurious villas.

Because everything is offered at the resort, it is a completely relaxing experience. Kids can swim while grownups relax, families can spend time together playing, parents golf while kids mingle in the activities area. The grounds are stunning with tall, proud palm trees flanking amazing mountains. Fresh air, clear blue skies and a near-perfect climate much of year make the Marriott Shadow Ridge in Palm Desert the absolute perfect getaway.

Ultra Luxurious Sleeping Area

Staying at Marriott’s Shadow Ridge

A mere 10 minute drive from Palm Springs International Airport, and only a two hour drive from Los Angeles, Marriott’s Shadow Ridge is one of 51 Marriott Vacation Club resorts worldwide. Marriott Vacation Club is celebrating 25 years of quality vacations and is the recognized leader in the timeshare industry. Vacationers can stay at the Marriott Shadow Ridge as part of their widely used vacation ownership program (www.marriott-vacations.com) or as nightly rentals (www.marriott.com).

The Birth of a New Concept
LATP Talks to Ed Kinney, vice president of corporate affairs and brand awareness for Marriott Vacation Club International, about their newly developed villas, how they arrived at the concept and what goes on behind the scenes.

LA’s the Place: How did the innovative concept of the new “lock off” come about?

Ed Kinney: The new villa design at Marriott’s Shadow Ridge was a combination of us being an industry leader and innovator while also getting feedback from our owner base. Research was conducted to gain insight into customer opinion and a model villa was built on-site to get owner’s feedback on the layout, flow, utility and use of space. Elements in the new villa design were viewed as upgrades and appealed to a broader range of customers; especially to families traveling with children.

The new deluxe lock-off concept features an open and flexible design with two completely separate living rooms, balconies and a kitchen and kitchenette, allowing guests to divide villas into two separate accommodations. Each spacious villa ranges from approximately 1,110 to 1,330 square feet and includes a fully equipped kitchen with granite countertops, stainless steel appliances and custom cabinets; generous living and dining areas; luxurious bedding; multiple flat-panel televisions with DVD players; private balcony; washer/dryer and Wi-Fi internet access. We expect to implement elements of this design at future Marriott Vacation Club resorts, worldwide.

LATP: How much of the new concept was design experts versus owner/guest input?

EK: The design of the new villas at Marriott’s Shadow Ridge was a balanced contribution of owner and guest input and the expertise of our designers. We anticipated how a few changes in the current villa design could maximize the space and flow and we then asked our owners for their input on several occasions and incorporated changes which resulted in the final new villa design.

LATP: The units are so complete in and of themselves, with every need anticipated. Is that something that has evolved along the way based on guest input, or were those little touches (like complete kitchen ware, dish soap, etc.) included in your plans from the beginning?

EK: The villa amenities at Marriott’s Shadow Ridge represent our brand standards across all of our Marriott Vacation Club resorts. With 25 years of delivering unforgettable vacations under our belt, we have a great understanding of what our guests need.

LATP: The Shadow Ridge property has amenities and recreational activities for every age (afternoon movies, games, arcade, water aerobics, crafts, in-pool entertainment). Is that something that’s exclusive to this particular property, or is this standard across all MVC properties?

EK: All of our Marriott Vacation Club resorts feature on-site activities for all ages. At each resort, scheduled activities are reflective of the destination and range from learning how to make a fresh-flower lei in Hawaii, to stargazing and learning the Salsa in Aruba.

LATP: How has the property been received by the “hotel guests” who are not used to such high-quality rooms and amenities?

EK: Our villas are not meant to be a comparison to a typical hotel room. Our resorts present a unique vacation environment that caters most to families going on vacation. Although we often offer more villa and resort amenities, that is balanced by less service-oriented amenities such as valet parking, comprehensive room service, etc.

Andre Agassi Foundation

Now in its 14th year, the Grand Slam for Children brings together international stars to build awareness and raise money for the Andre Agassi Foundation. The annual event supports the Foundation’s efforts to transform education and benefits the Andre Agassi College Preparatory Academy, a K-12 public charter school in Las Vegas that strives to provide children with a first-class education. The Foundation opened the Andre Agassi College Preparatory Academy in 2001; in 2009 the public charter school graduated its first senior class with 100 percent of graduates going on to higher education opportunities. The Andre Agassi Foundation’s work is directly impacting students in Las Vegas, but it has broader implications for education nationwide, as the Foundation works to increase investment in, and accountability for, public schools. Since 1995, the Grand Slam has raised nearly $75 million to support a movement that’s improving education for all children.

K1 Speed revs up the go kart experience for the kid or the kid at heart as the largest indoor go kart racing company on the West Coast. With 6 locations throughout Southern California and the Pacific Northwest, K1 Speed is the place to go for an ultra hip and eco-friendly go kart experience. Founded in 2003, K1 Speed has go kart locations in Los Angeles, San Diego, the Inland Empire and Seattle.

Modern Go Kart Venue

It’s not your grandfather’s go kart track as K1 Speed has created a fresh and electric interpretation of what a go kart racing venue should be. Highly advanced and green friendly electric karts are complemented by a vibrant entertainment environment, complete with pool tables, authentic racing memorabilia, pit cafes and meeting rooms for parties and corporate events.

Green Friendly Karts

K1 Speed has also reinvented the go kart itself with sporty yet environmentally friendly electric go karts. Gone is that familiar smell of gas fumes as you slide behind the wheel of a go kart. These electric alternatives to gas powered karts reduce the impact on the environment while actually offering superior performance with speeds approaching 45 mph.

Race green and clean with K1 Speed's electric go karts.

A 20hp DC electric motor produces far more torque than gas engines, allowing for superb acceleration out of tight corners. K1 Speed’s electric karts can be programmed to a wide range of pre-set speeds which means the vehicles can be adjusted to meet a variety of skill levels, from the novice participant to advanced drivers. Safety is also an advantage with the electric karts as they are programmed for automatic speed reduction when entering the pits and can be turned off remotely if needed.

K1 Speed Tracks

Part of the appeal with K1 Speed racing centers is their intricately designed tracks. Each location’s track is distinct from the others but all of the track layouts feature tantalizing turns and curves. K1 Speed tracks prefer quality over quantity with their straightaway stretches, offering unprecedented twists and turns while still giving you those chances to satisfy your need for speed. The spacious 1/3 mile tracks allow as many as 12 racers to compete at one time.

Race no matter the weather at K1 Speed's indoor track

Corporate Friendly

K1 Speed isn’t just a place for kids. With a functional setting that’s rich in amenities, these racing centers are perfect for corporate parties. K1 Speed venues have meeting rooms with wireless internet and 110 inch display screens for your presentation needs. They also have catering options and budget friendly race packages. From team building exercises to celebrations, they create a compelling atmosphere for corporate events. K1 Speed is even a popular destination for tradeshows and product launches.

Racing go karts... what a great idea for a corporate event!

New Torrance Location

This year K1 Speed opened their newest location in Torrance. The venue began operations in May and is their first in California to include the concrete surface that’s become so popular at their Seattle location. The etched concrete racing surface is ideal for drifting and offers slightly less grip compared to asphalt tracks. The difference makes for a more challenging experience as even expert drivers will have to work hard to achieve fast lap times. Located on South Vermont Avenue near LAX airport, K1 Speed’s Torrance location is easily accessible from the Carson, Long Beach and Los Angeles areas.

<img class="size-full wp-image-10687 " title="K1 Speed" src="http://lastheplace.com/images/article-images//2009/09/trackwithkart.jpg" alt="Southern California's largest go kart facilities...
Great For All Ages

From birthday parties and Bar and Bat Mitzvah celebrations to corporate events, holding a commemorative event at K1 Speed can be fun for everyone. It’s also a great site to host adult birthday parties and even bachelor parties. However, you don’t have to be part of a group because K1 Speed also offers great prices for individuals, including competitively priced packages like their buy 2 get 1 free deal. True racing enthusiasts can compete in K1 Speed’s racing leagues while newcomers to kart racing can learn in their instructional classes.

K1 Speed is located in San Diego North, Irvine, Orange County, Anaheim, Orange County, Ontario, Torrance/LA, and Seattle.

Susan Graver is the creator of K1 Speed, who went to great lengths to open the first one in San Diego, then 5 more locations. Now, thousands have had much fun racing and playing at K1 Speed. Watch for our upcoming debut of LA’s The Place Daily TV, which we will feature an interview with Susan!

Midway Introduces Ferrari California

Midway Car Rental (www.midwaycarrental.com) has announced the introduction of the all new Ferrari California hardtop convertible to its gallery of luxury cars, a fitting addition for a company that’s already the Ferrari of the car rental industry. Reminiscent of earlier versions of the Ferrari California, the 250GT and the 365, the Ferrari California hardtop convertible embodies a true grand-touring car while boasting the automotive prowess that accompanies the ability to go from 0 to 60 mph in under 4 seconds.

2009 Ferrari California

Already trusted by hotels and the entertainment industry because of their service and vehicle gallery, the addition of the new Ferrari California only adds to Midway Car Rental’s impressive list of luxurious vehicles. The hardtop convertible is generating buzz with a long waiting list and is considered to be a rare Ferrari with elegant styling and premium price.

Thanks to Midway, Ferrari enthusiasts can forgo the long wait. Please inquire with the reservation center for pricing options and specials on the Ferrari California.

See Los Angeles in California Style

Ferrari California represents many firsts for the Italian automaker, with groundbreaking features like a hard-top convertible, front engine V8 with direct injection, 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox, and 2+2 passenger seating which can used to carry additional passengers or for storage.

The technology-heavy Ferrari California also takes a monumental step in amenities. The radio and hard-drive based navigation system are superior to anything else Ferrari has developed. The hard-top is a work of art as well, folding down in just under 15 seconds. A 460 horsepower front engine V8 matted to a rear-wheel platform catapults the car to 60 mph under 4 seconds.

Midway’s Mission

Established in 1970, independently-owned Midway Car Rental has 9 locations throughout the Los Angeles area with free airport shuttle service at LAX and pickup service from Burbank Airport. And as of October 2009 Midway Car Rental will have a location in San Diego that has free airport shuttle service.

Midway serves personal and professional needs as well as serving in-bound travel and tourism clients. The company prides itself in providing first-class car rental service to a majority of the hotels, major production studios, travel agencies, and corporate companies doing business in Los Angeles. Ryan explains why they are the go-to rental company for the high-end hotels, “They choose us because we give the same 5 star service without conflict they give their guests. The vendors are an extension of the hotel.”

Midway Car Rental also specializes in providing upscale professional service while delivering premium cars to hotels, homes and businesses. Service is fundamental to Midway’s business philosophy as the company offers personalized Town Car meet and greet services at local airports as well as meeting specific vehicle make and model requests from clients.

Yelpers love Midway

But don’t take our word for it… the interactivity of the web has given power back to the people. Sites such as Yelp.com allow the voices of the masses to be heard. It doesn’t get anymore truthful than unbiased reviews from the public’s experience. You can read for yourself why Midway has a 4 ½ star rating on Yelp. http://www.yelp.com/biz/midway-car-rental-los-angeles-6

About Jennifer Diamond and the Foundation
Jennifer Diamond, 30, passed away on the evening of July 23, 2002, surrounded by family in her home in Los Angeles, California. A talented and accomplished artist, in the last days of her life she helped form The Jennifer Diamond Foundation.

Born in Brooklyn, New York, on October 27, 1971, Jennifer was the loving and cherished daughter of Alice and Harvey Diamond. Raised with her brother Matthew in Studio City, California, Jennifer attended Dixie Canyon Elementary School, Milliken Junior High and Grant High School. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from San Francisco State University, and applied her artistic talent to animation, graphic design and web site projects. A great lover of the arts and children, Jennifer joined both of these passions by providing art classes to young people.

Jennifer gave many gifts to those who loved her, especially in the last two years of her life as she battled appendiceal carcinoma, a rare form of cancer. She will be remembered as a brave and graceful woman whose love for others was truly unending.

The Jennifer Diamond Cancer Foundation is dedicated to helping people win the fight against cancer. They are focused on empowering people with knowledge, as well as supporting research and healing programs that provide the tools to help treat the mind and body as one.

In the short history of the foundation, they have raised money for different programs and projects. Working in tandem with both The Wellness Community and Gilda’s Club, they have created their first two of what they hope are many cancer research centers/libraries which will house the latest books, videos, periodicals, computers and research assistance. These centers will provide free and vital information for people and their families and friends who are learning how to live with and combat cancer.

Additionally, they donated monies for WeSpark, a Los Angeles-based cancer support center for cancer patients, their families and friends. The financial support has been allocated to supplement a children’s art program.

Remember to mark your calendar Aug. 22nd, 2009 as this is one race you do not want to miss.

IDEAL-PRO-LIFT treatments are performed in conjunction with the classic Carita Renovateur facial targeted for individual skin types: Pureness (for combination/oily skin), Hydrating (for all skin), Nourishing (for dry skin), Softening (for sensitive skin), and Anti-Aging (for mature skin) facials. The appropriate Carita products are used and a special professional serum is applied while the machine is in use for optimal results.

At the heart of IDEAL-PRO-LIFT is the pulsating current. The pulsating current is used with direct galvanic current to create stimulation and drainage within the skin. The pulsating current focuses on draining, while the galvanic allows for ionization and facilitates the absorption of active ingredients. Only the galvanic current is used during the Deep Cleansing phase of IDEAL-PRO-LIFT treatments. The Correcting phase involves both the pulsating current and the galvanic current, which facilitates ionization,
microcirculation and regeneration of skin tissue. The pulsating current stimulates muscles during the Stimulating phase. This, in turn, firms muscles, tightens facial features and smoothes wrinkles and fine lines.

IDEAL-PRO-LIFT relies on pre-programmed intensities dependent on the client’s skin type. This allows for the maximum intensity to be used to deliver the best personalized results. The use of an advanced micro-controller allows for increased effectiveness, better performance and comfort for the client. The machine can then utilize steeper forms of current waves to provide more effective results. Because of this, clients will be extremely comfortable and will not experience the prickling sensations caused by machines that rely on previous technology.

The machine also introduces a new hand-held instrument with a practical, ball-shaped metal tip specially designed to apply directly to the delicate skin around the eyes and lips. The new round tip is more pleasant for clients as the ultra-smooth metal glides easily over skin. This innovative stylus provides better results and a more targeted treatment for the eye and lip area. The ergonomic design is easy for estheticians to handle and does not require an adapter.

Lab studies conducted on women between the ages of 45-66 with wrinkles, fine lines and loose skin, reveal significant results. After IDEAL-PRO-LIFT facial treatment using Progressif Serum and including a Carita Renovateur facial, 66% of participants showed a 24% improvement in skin’s micro-relief and a 30% reduction in the area with wrinkles, while 60% of volunteers showed a 32% reduction in the total length of wrinkles. There was a 29% improvement in the firmness of skin amongst 66% of volunteers as well as a 37% improvement in the elasticity of skin in 73% of volunteers. In subjective satisfaction tests, 100% thought their skin was firmer and smoother.

FACIAL PROGRAMS
The facial commences with cleansing, toning, the Carita Well-Being Massage and the famous Renovateur followed by IDEAL-PRO-LIFT Deep Cleansing. Next, the aesthetician will introduce a lifting facial massage including Carita techniques and Professional mask and serums to lift skin and increase microcirculation. The application of the appropriate mask for each skin type follows, as well as either the Correcting or Stimulating program of IDEAL PRO-LIFT. The facial culminates with the application of moisturizing treatments for the face and eyes. The IDEAL-PRO-LIFT machine will be used during approximately 15-30 minutes of the facial.

Deep Cleansing – Cleanses and removes impurities from the skin using only the galvanic current. This program liquefies sebum and skin follicles causing them to exit pores on their own. This method is significantly better for the skin than extractions.

Correcting – Stimulates cutaneous micro-circulation, oxygenates the skin and eliminates toxins stored in the epidermis.

Stimulating – Stimulates the muscles and fibroblasts by first stimulating and ionization, followed by stimulating alone.

BODY PROGRAMS
In 2007, Carita introduced three new types of body treatments, including a body-specific sponge holder with a wider surface area to cover a larger area of the body using more practical, pleasant and ergonomic movements.

Slimming – Also called electrolipolysis, this program uses the electrical stimulation of sub-cutaneous adipose (non-muscular) tissues to activate the nervous system, which stimulates the adipocytes. At the same time, the galvanic current facilitates the absorption of active ingredients.

Firming – Using a pre-determined intensity based on the area being treated, this program contracts the muscles to help firm them. Treatments are available for the thighs/buttocks, abdominals/arms, and the bust.

Draining – By stimulating and energizing the lymphatic system, tissues are better-drained. This drainage helps slow premature aging of the skin and helps soothe ‘heavy’, swollen legs.

About the Carita Sisters: Calling themselves the “entrepreneurs of metamorphosis”, sisters Maria and Rosy Carita were the first female hairdressers in the Paris market. The Carita sisters have a long legacy of trend-setting hairstyling: Brigitte Bardot’s ponytail, Jean Seberg’s haircut, Juliette Greco’s hairstyle, Maria Callas’s chignon, Mireille Mathieu’s bowl cut, Catherine Deneuve’s blondness and the movie Polly Magoo’s extravagant hairstyles.

Hairstyles were not the only thing they focused their creative energies on. The Carita sisters looked to also revolutionize skincare products in a time when beauty lotions were notably thick and oily. Dedicated to pioneering the beauty market, the Carita sisters challenged and transformed acquired habits and established ideas in order to ensure the success of their skincare line. “Haute Couture” treatments, like the ones they made famous in their Carita House of Beauty in Paris, have finally come to America.

Maria and Rosy worked non-stop with talent at their fingertips in advancing skin, hair and body treatments and the Carita company carries on their mission of making this life a little more gorgeous.

Catherine Bartolomei, local resident and fifth generation farm girl of the Russian River Valley, nostalgically recounts the harvest parties of her youth. She remembers inviting dozens of friends and neighbors to help pick the crops on her family’s farm and after the hard work was done, everyone gathered to celebrate: eating a hearty home cooked meal, listening to live music and retreating to the barn loft for a good night’s sleep. Wanting to preserve the essence of her family’s tradition of hospitality, in 2001, Catherine and her brother Joe completely transformed the early 1900’s rundown, ‘pepto-bismal’ pink (in Catherine’s words) Farmhouse Inn into an award-winning California wine country destination recognized by Conde Nast Traveler, Travel & Leisure and Zagat to name a few.

The Original 1900's Farmhouse Inn

Farmhouse Inn is the perfect combination of getting back to the basics, farm-to-table food, and heart-felt kindness with urbanite creature comforts like complimentary DSL, heated pool, spa treatments, flat screen TVs and DVD players. The flourishing English style grounds and gardens, set among six acres of native California Oak trees, are kept in a manner even the Queen of England would delight in. Upon arrival, a spa bar awaits you to sample their brown sugar scrub, peppermint salts or homemade soaps for some self-pampering in the in-room jetted tubs, wood saunas or steam showers. Like a kid in a candy store, I excitedly scooped up a sample of each, with visions of sugar baths dancing in my head.

A Very Noble Barn

Rest Easy in the Comforts of the Barn

Recently opened after two years of construction in May 2009, the Barn guest rooms are a must for the ultimate retreat from the urban grind. Soothing music, fresh cut flowers, and homemade cookies greeted us as we entered our quaint abode for the next two days and the chaos and anxiety of LA city life began to melt away. The organic architecture, floor-to-ceiling windows and simple yet modern decor allowed the stunning views of nature to permeate the senses. The large wooden patio was a natural extension of seamless indoor-outdoor design. It called to me to enjoy a glass of local wine, provided in the room for purchase, while being mesmerized by the indoor/outdoor fire or even relishing in a nude sunbathing session shrouded in woodland privacy.

Ahh, Just One of the Lovely Barn Room Features

If you’re a techie-lover, the Barn rooms are also for you. Even though it has the personable qualities of a bed and breakfast, it’s modernity matches the 5-star Park Hotel in Tokyo, Japan. State of the art control panels command everything from the dimming of the lights to the heating of the bathroom floors to the type of jet speed in the tub. Never fear (even if you’re not a computer engineer) you can get all systems a-go with little hassle and be unwinding in your 115 degree steam sauna or massaging your tensions away in the jacuzzi that overlooks the forest in no time.

Farmhouse Restaurant
When the sun sets on the Farmhouse Inn, the Michelin rated Farmhouse Restaurant is the perfect reward after an exciting day of tasting the fruits of California’s most breathtaking wine country, hiking throughout the Armstrong Redwood forests or reveling in the savage beauty of the coast. Executive Chef Steve Litke creates a harmonious menu with Catherine and Joe’s vision that supports local farmers and reflects the bounty of Sonoma County produce. It was named Editor’s Top Pick in Fodor’s California Wine County guide in both 2008 and 2009, San Francisco Chronicle’s Top 100 restaurants for six years in row, and Top 10 Culinary Country Inns in Bon Appetite Magazine in 2008. Stay tuned for a full review of the Farmhouse Restaurant on LA’s the Place.

Fireside Fun
After a finely crafted meal of rabbit served three ways and expertly paired with wine by the Farmhouse’s sommeliers, I sauntered out to enjoy the clean, crisp air around the community fire pit. Although my taste buds were thoroughly tantalized, once I saw other guests making S’mores with homemade vanilla bean marshmallows, I magically found room in my satiated stomach to happily enjoy the gooey sweet reminiscent of my childhood family camping trips.

Breakfast of Champions

Enjoy Locally Fresh Gourmet Breakfasts

Up early to plan our excursions around the neighboring towns of Sebastopol and Healdsburg, we went to the complimentary two-course gourmet breakfast for the first seating at 8:30 am. Breakfast is my favorite mealtime and Farmhouse Inn’s breakfasts rank among the crème de la crème of my morning noshing experiences. Just as with dinner the night before, everything they served was from local Sonoma County farmers. The succulent strawberry soup and still-warm-from-the-oven ginger muffin first course was just a warm-up to the second course of corn waffles with fresh berries paired with a maple butter, homemade sausage and a spicy egg scramble. What could be better – a romantic, fire-lit room sleeping on a feather bed by night, eating one of the most decadent breakfasts by morning and wine tasting among the picturesque vineyards in the afternoon?

The Holy Grail of Wine
Speaking of wine tasting, the concierge arranged appointments based on my request to visit exclusive wineries with a commitment to the growing trend of ‘natural’ or Old World winemaking tradition. You won’t find these on the Northern Sonoma County Wine roadmap and are not to be missed while staying at the Farmhouse Inn:

Littorai, Sebastopol: Heidi and Ted Lemon of Littorai produce vineyard designated chardonnay and pinot noir wines from the true north coast of California: western Sonoma and western Mendocino counties. They specialize in ‘terroir based’ winemaking, wine of a single place produced by a single estate. Make sure to tour their biodynamic farm and straw bale constructed winery that incorporates gravity flow. Don’t leave without buying a few bottles of their 2006 Anderson Valley Pinot Noir and the 2006 Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir. www.littorai.com

Luke Bass Passionately Explains his Winemaking

Porter-Bass, Guerneville: With a visit to the intimate, rustic Porter-Bass vineyard complete with chickens and sheep roaming about, you’ll experience the extreme opposite of a slick, industrial wine tasting room like Kendall Jackson or Lynmar. Elena and Luke Bass with their 6-month-old baby, Enzo, invite you to their sunny kitchen table to enjoy spirited conversation about the environment and organic farming techniques while you enjoy wine that is unadulterated and beautifully authentic. Be the eco-savvy hit of your next dinner party and flaunt the Porter-Bass 2005 Zinfandel or 2007 Pinot Noir with its intriguing grasshopper-bee label. www.porterbass.com

Wind Gap, Forestville: Pax Mahle, founder and winemaker of the successful Pax Wine Cellars, traded profit for passion, sold his company and started Wind Gap Wines to specialize in natural winemaking, including crushing the grapes via feet and sourcing the glass bottles and corks locally. He makes his wine in a 1940’s prohibition era winery version of Andy Warhol’s Factory, accented by quirky, hip chicken feeder and wagon wheel hub light fixtures. His unfiltered, melon-colored 2007 Pinot Gris from Russian River Valley creates an incredible palate spectacle when paired with King Island Seal Bay Triple Cream cheese or try the delicate 2006 Syrah from Sonoma Coast with a rack of lamb. www.windgapwines.com

Two of the Three Wine Vigilantes

Arnot-Roberts, Forestville: After visiting Wind Gap, just move one barstool down to taste childhood friends, Duncan and Nathan’s Arnot-Roberts wines. They are friendly competitors with Pax, sharing the same space and vision to create distinct, interesting wines. The three thirty-something guys are in the making to become modern Three Musketeers fighting for wine made in the barrel rather than in the lab. And barrels they are intimately intertwined with – Nathan builds all the French oak barrels by hand that age the Arnot-Robert’s Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, and Chardonnay wine. The mysterious 2007 Arnot-Roberts Mendicino County Syrah delivers silky sensuality rather than the typical sucker punch most Syrahs possess due in part to the 100 percent whole-cluster fermentation. www.arnotroberts.com

Short Flight, Sweet Dreams
To discover these hidden jewels of the vine for yourself in only a few hours travel time, Farmhouse Inn is offering a special “Short Flight, Sweet Dreams” package. Fly Horizon Airlines from LAX into Charles M. Schulz – Sonoma County Airport (STS) and stay four nights in one of Farmhouse Inn’s Barn guest rooms, and Farmhouse Inn will pay the airfare (up to $500 per room reservation, must show proof of Horizon Air travel for reimbursement). You will also enjoy a $100 dining credit at the Farmhouse Restaurant, as well as all the signature Farmhouse Inn touches. This offer is available now through August 31, 2009 and can be booked by calling (800) 464-6642.

Whether you choose the cottage rooms, individually decorated to reflect the charm and comfort of farm life or you choose the luxurious Barn rooms, you will undoubtedly experience all you deserve in a Sonoma Coast vacation – doting yet unobtrusive attention from staff and owner Catherine, premium amenities, restorative surroundings, exciting wine country adventures and the peace of mind that you are supporting a way of life that preserves our connection to the land and to the relationships that sustain us.

Madera is known among the locals as the Southern gateway to Yosemite. It’s a relative unknown to many, though wineries in Madera have been producing since the late 1930s. Madera is an easy stop along the way to Yosemite or Tahoe, and perfect for an enjoyable, relaxed, and casual day, or days, of wine tasting.

Wines produced in Madera stand out largely because the wineries aim at growing beautiful fruit, valuing quality over quantity. The concept of Madera wineries is to offer a less “stuffy” experience for visitors, with hands-on and knowledgeable staff, and the added personal touch of a small town.

Madera, California - Napa's Stepsister

Madera’s Own Dessert in a Glass

You may be wondering, what exactly is “dessert in a glass”? Well, dessert in a glass consists of wines from Quady Winery in Madera. Quady Winery takes things a step beyond other wineries by specializing in dessert wines, a curious choice for an American winemaker.

While most winemakers produce traditional offerings such as Chardonnay, Merlot and Cabernet, Quady Winery has created a niche market that is unique and distinct. Owners Andrew and Laurel Quady chose to make their wines about the complete experience – one of enjoying a fine dessert wine with the company and conversation of family, friends or that special someone.

The Quadys found their passion for dessert wines. Living in the larger Los Angeles area, the Quadys grew tired of congestion and longed for greener pastures. They quit their respective jobs in explosives and merchandising and Andrew Quady returned to school, obtaining his degree in enology (wine and wine-making).

Wine Tasting at Quady Winery

Quady wines began life with the Orange Muscat grape. These grapes are used in the Quady Essensia wine, which features a vibrant taste of orange and apricot that dances on your tongue. Their Elysium uses the Black Muscat grape, which produces a deliciously intense dessert wine. This incredible sweet red wine has beautiful berry flavors that holds its own as dessert in a glass, but also provides quite the treat when combined with a luscious dessert such as chocolate mousse with raspberry sauce, for example.

Quady Winery’s other wine offerings include Starboard Batch 88, incredibly smooth with chocolate and raisin flavor visiting your palate; Deviation, with its Essensia base coupled with citrus notes and herbs; Vya, a vermouth that is fused with botanicals and produces a crisp “fresh mouth” feel; Purple, tasting much like Welch’s Grape Juice or Jolly Rancher candy; and Visao, a soft dry red similar to the Roija wines of Spain, that can only be obtained at the winery; and Palomino Fino, an elegant aperitif.

Quady Winery

If you are taking a trip to Tahoe or Yosemite, or just need to break away, you owe it to yourself to stop by the tasting room at Quady Winery to sample some of the best dessert wines created. You may even be privileged to try some of the limited wines that are only available at the winery.

Last week, the Hotel Shangri-La in Santa Monica hosted its premiere party celebrating the completion of a $30 million refurbishment. LA’s hottest and brightest were dazzled by the pristine, white exterior and exquisite architectural design as they sipped on cocktails and immersed themselves in the fabulous energy of this smashing event.

Famous for the range of high profile guests that room within its walls, the Hotel Shangri-La at its luxurious launch made everyone in attendance feel like a celebrity, not to mention the number of real celebrities spotted at the party.

Just steps from the beach with amazing art decor, an atmosphere of opulence and tranquility was felt by all, leaving an indelible impression on the minds of guests as memorable night that would not be soon forgotten.

The Hotel Shangri-La first opened to the public in 1939, impressing visitors with its Streamline Moderne Architecture. Since that time, the hotel has been enjoyed by many people, from presidents to average joes, for its artistic beauty and convenient location.

Guests have the privilege of taking a stroll to the famous Santa Monica pier or hip 3rd street promenade, hopping in the car for a short but scenic drive along the coast to idyllic Malibu beaches, or perhaps exploring the nightlife in eccentric Hollywood. The options for entertainment are endless while staying at this lush hotel that serves as a gateway to all of LA’s greatest treasures.

Sex and The City's John Corbett relaxed in the sea breeze this night at the Shangri-la; with party guest Karyn Fitzpatrick.

The recent multi-million dollar refurbishment of the Hotel Shangri-La was the first renovation that the hotel had undergone in twenty years. While major elements of the hotel’s original design were preserved in the remodel, newer contemporary additions hope to bring the Hotel Shangri-La into the 21st century. May green applications have been incorporated. All 71 rooms with a gorgeous ocean view have been updated to include high speed internet connections, premium sound systems and more.

Those lucky enough to attend the Hotel Shangri-La’s launch party last Thursday night, June 18th, were able to witness the convergence of history and modernity in this newly renovated LA landmark that is now both contemporary and historic. With such an amazing first impression at its posh re-opening, one can only imagine how much more fabulous staying at the hotel as a guest would be. ‘LA’s the Place’ will be doing an indepth close-up editorial of Hotel Shangri-La. Look for the official review of Hotel Shangri-La this next month or go experience the extravagance yourself.

The Hotel Shangri-La is located in Santa Monica on 1301 Ocean Ave. Call (310) 394-2791 for more information.

Actor Kevin Sorbo, widely known for leading roles in the television programs Hercules, Andromeda and many more, will host his second annual Kevin Sorbo Celebrity Golf Tournament at Dragon Ridge Country Club in Henderson, NV on October 8th and 9th. The event is held in support of A World Fit For Kids! , a Los Angeles based nonprofit organization dedicated to preparing young people for fit and fulfilling lives. Sorbo, whose relationship with A World Fit For Kids began in 1997, serves as a Chair and Spokesperson for the organization.

At first glance, it may seem impossible for the lean and muscular frame of the 6’3” Sorbo to loom any larger than it already does on theater screens or while towering over television cameras. Yet it is what happens after cameras stop rolling and theater lights dim, when his role as Spokesperson takes center stage, that Sorbo’s larger than life physical existence is overshadowed by his utterly human contribution.

Celebrity Golf Tournament

Last year’s inaugural event was also held at Dragon Ridge Country Club In Henderson, a luxurious destination located just 14 miles from the Las Vegas strip. The two-day event attracted over 100 golfers and celebrities, including sports legends like Julius “Dr. J” Erving, Ed “Too Tall” Jones, Jim McMahon, Franco Harris and actors Dennis Haskins, Christopher McDonald, Patrick Warburton and Paula Trickey.

From the 2008 Kevin Sorbo Celebrity Golf Tournament

The event included a Friday night dinner and party at Planet Hollywood with comedic performances from Mike Burton and Gary Valentine. Saturday’s golfing extravaganza was followed by a celebratory dinner on the Las Vegas Strip with a live and silent auction of dream gifts, including sports memorabilia, Ritz-Carlton vacation travel packages, amazing golf weekends and more. Capping the event was a private concert by country recording artist Steve Azar and R&B musician Javier Colon.

Driven by the momentum of the inaugural tournament, this year’s event promises more excitement with the return of many of last year’s participants and the scheduled attendance of celebrities like Meat Loaf, John Ratzenberger, Gregory Itzin, Joel Gretsch, Henry Cho, and Bruce McGill.

Supporting the Event

Kevin Sorbo with the kids he has helped so much.

The success of Sorbo’s Annual Celebrity Golf Tournament can be found in the generosity of those who support A World Fit For Kids! From 50,000 to 1,000 and many points in between, the event offers a wide range of sponsorship levels and is also open to In-Kind donations.

Those interested in sponsoring Kevin Sorbo’s Annual Celebrity Golf Tournament or seeking more information on the event benefiting A World Fit For Kids! may call (213) 387-7712 or email sorbogolf@worldfitforkids.org.

A World Fit For Kids!

With fifteen years of service, A World Fit For Kids! has impacted the lives of over 130,000 students through their advocacy of cooperative empowerment and articulation of tangible, positive life habits and choices.

A recipient of the prestigious 2007 Gold Medal from the CA Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports, the success of A World Fit For Kids! is defined by a mentoring program that trains teens to become heroes to the kids in their own neighborhoods by using the vehicles of school, fitness, sports, and positive role models.

By promoting the ideal that learning is enhanced through trying to explain what you’ve learned to others, the “kids teaching kids” methodology provides teens with responsibility and self-esteem while offering younger children mentors and positive role models. A World Fit For Kids! changes two lives with just one act; matching an adolescent eager for purpose with a younger child enthusiastic about learning from someone that has an authentic understanding of their community.

A Focused Approach

It’s an all too familiar battle in today’s society; parents are engaged in a constant struggle to drag children away from monitors and off of couches while guiding them onto playgrounds and toward face to face interaction. World Fit For Kids! targets these life skills that are increasingly neglected by promoting the values of physical fitness, communication and creativity. Their purpose is the facilitation of physical activities that are safe, meaningful and fun with the goal of promoting youth development, leadership and experiential learning.

For teens and college students, the program addresses:

Fitness
Personal development
School graduation rates
Job skills
Job readiness
Mentoring
For younger children, the program focuses on:
Fitness
Homework assistance
School connectedness
Mentoring

A World Fit For Kids! is a charitable 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization and all donations are tax-deductible. The organization continually seeks funding and support with the objective of expanding their program nationally and ultimately internationally.

Ever need your faith in humanity restored after slogging through the trenches of city life? LA’s the Place highlights a morale boosting get-away in a land not too far off with clean air, great eats and people so nice you’d think you’ve landed in an episode of Twilight Zone.

A mere three and half hour drive up the coast will have you soaking up the striking views of the volcanic rock affectionately known as the “Gibraltar of the Pacific” and unwinding in the quaint, friendly seaside village of Morro Bay. Whether you like a vacation filled with adventure or you just need to get in touch with nature and reflect, Morro Bay has what you need to recharge.

Awaken to the sounds of sea lions playing down below

Rooms With A Million Dollar View
Settle in for a luxurious stay at the family-owned Anderson Inn located on the water in the heart of the festive Embarcadero street. The eight-room boutique property has the amenities of a five-star hotel with the personal touch of a bed and breakfast. Siblings Molly and Jeff Anderson warmly welcome you like family and with their down-to-earth, hospitable natures – you wish they would adopt you.

Worth every penny even in our economic climate, reserve a premier room with a fireplace, Jacuzzi tub, private balcony and most importantly- a stunning view of the harbor and Morro Bay rock. Beware, on weekend nights, the music from the lively bars down the street might disturb you if you are turning in early. Depending on the season, the room rates range from $169 – $289. www.andersoninnmorrobay.com

Ahoy Mate!
Next to the Anderson Inn, rent a kayak or electric boat to explore the 15 miles of protected waters of the Morro Bay Estuary and Bird Sanctuary. You’re sure to get an up close encounter with seals, otters, sea lions, blue herons and many other endangered animals and birds. If you’ve ever dreamed of being the captain of your own boat, electric boats akin to water golf carts, are especially fun and safe for the whole family to take out and enjoy the calm waters of the bay. Large enough to seat twelve people with a table in the middle, it’s the perfect opportunity to pack a picnic with a bottle of wine and watch the sun fall behind the Morro Bay rock while peacefully floating along. www.rockkayak.com, www.at-the-helm-boats.com

There’s Gold in Them There Mountains
Montana de Oro, or the Mountain of Gold, is one of California’s largest state parks with over 8000 acres offering golfing, hiking, horseback riding, surfing and tide pool exploring. Only a few minutes drive from the Anderson Inn, go south on Main Street and it leads you straight into the park. To enjoy a 360 degree view of the bay, climb the Cabrillo Peak by taking the one-mile easy hike called “Black Hill” – don’t forget to stop and enjoy the intoxicating fragrances of the natural flora like white sage and eucalyptus. If you brought the kids, the Montana de Oro Museum of Natural History is a must. The interactive, state-of-the-art exhibits explain the ecology of the Morro Bay estuary in an entertaining way that your kids or the kid in you will enjoy. Click here for more info on their website…

Foodie Central
Unlike many tourist destinations with dozens of chain restaurants, the caliber of locally-owned dining options in Morro Bay will impress the most elite food critic. Once again in the theme of Morro Bay aka Pleasantville, even the servers and managers were freakishly happy.

The Galley Seafood Grill and Bar

The waterfront Galley Seafood Grill & Bar, the only 3-star restaurant in the area, features delicate preparations of fresh seafood caught daily from the fisherman of the bay in a sophisticated Island-themed setting. Sip on a glass of Central Coast California wine while trying their signature Pan Seared Scallops – the only thing missing is a spoon to lap up the rest of the white wine shallot sauce after the scallops are devoured.

Just a few minute walk from Anderson Inn, the tiny Frankie and Lola’s Cafe serves the best breakfasts on the planet. No kidding, their Crème Brulee Cinnamon French toast with a flambéed caramelized pecan topping and the Andouille and Prawn Scramble with house-made sausage are culinary masterpieces.

Ask any local where they like to eat and they all agree on Tognazzini’s Dockside Restaurant as the Morro Bay treasure for the best crab cakes, shrimp chowder and BBQ oysters. It’s casual and kitschy, just the way local hangouts should be. Don’t forget to write your favorite relative a Dockside Restaurant postcard; hand it over to your server and they’ll mail it for free.

Enjoying a Toast at AronHill Tasting Room

Solo Vino
Being only a short drive from the heart of Paso Robles or San Luis Obisbo wine country is a definite plus if you have more time to venture out, if not, AronHill Vineyards, the only Morro Bay winery and tasting room is a skip from your abode at the Anderson Inn. Winemaker Judy Aron harvests and produces her wine in the European tradition of allowing the terroir to determine the flavor of the wine rather than a lab. If Judy isn’t out in the fields picking grapes, she or her husband will be cheerfully pouring her beloved creations in the wine shop on the Embarcadero. Stop by for a taste of her elegant 2005 Chardonnay or the sexy ‘Unbridled Passion’ dessert wine she insists you pair with a Dove chocolate.

Morro Bay, with its beautiful scenery, wildlife and good natured locals, is the perfect retreat from the pressures of modern day living allowing you to focus on what really matters – enjoying every moment.

If you’re a thrillseeker looking for a most unique and unusual adventure, now you can grab a ticket on the Zeppelin Airship. The Zeppelin Airship, which is larger than a Boeing 747, will make flight-seeing tours available to the public Friday through Monday, from 9:00 am until 7:00 pm and are one hour in length. See the greater Los Angeles area in a way you’ve never seen it before.

Airship Ventures Zeppelin, the country’s only passenger airship operation for flight seeing tours, touched down Wednesday at Long Beach Airport. The arrival marks the first extended visit to the Los Angeles area in more than 70 years.

The Zeppelin Airship above the Goldengate Bridge.

Zeppelin Airships

Zeppelin airships are the largest in the world at 246 feet in length, and 50 feet longer than the largest blimp currently flying in the United States. The Airship Ventures Zeppelin carries 12 passengers and two crew members. Features include oversized panoramic windows, onboard restroom with window and a 180-degree rear observation window and love seat.

The only airship service of its kind, Airship Ventures has offered scenic flight seeing tours since October 2008. Flight seeing tours have originated from Moffett Field in Mountain View, Oakland International Airport and Monterey Peninsula Airport. These tours have provided passengers with a rare perspective of San Francisco, Silicon Valley and the Bay Area coastline.

The Zeppelin Airship cockpit.

LA Viewing

In August of 1929, Graf Zeppelin visited Los Angeles on a record-breaking round-the-world trip. The follow up to that historic flight will showcase an aerial view of the California coastline, the famous Queen Mary, spectacular sights of the Pacific Coast over Palos Verdes, Huntington Beach and Santa Monica.
The Zeppelin carries 12 passengers plus two crews, with luxury features including oversized panoramic windows, an onboard restroom with window, and a 180-degree rear observation window and “love seat”.

Purchasing Tickets

Eureka will offer flight seeing tour rides to the public on Thursday from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 a.m. Flights will depart from Long Beach Airport, FBO AirFlite Terminal in Long Beach, CA. Long Beach Airport is located at 3250 AirFlite Way, Long Beach CA 90807.

Individual tickets are available at $495 per person (plus taxes). Two tickets can be purchased at the reduced rate of $375 each, plus taxes.
