LATP:   From your bio, it looks as if you have 3 practices? Do you rotate between them throughout the week?

Dr. Anita Patel:   Yes, I keep the same schedule each week. Monday I am in Thousand Oaks, Tuesday through Thursday I am in Beverly Hills, and Fridays I am in Newport Beach.

LATP:   Are there certain procedures you do only at specific locations?

Dr. AP:  I do the majority of procedures in accredited ambulatory surgery centers, and send my patients to private after-care centers for procedures such as tummy tucks or facelifts. If I am doing breast reconstruction at the time of cancer resection, I typically do these procedures at the hospital.

LATP:   Women surgeons in the plastic surgery field are still very small numbers; what’s your thoughts on this?

Dr. AP:   I think this is changing with time. When I was in my residency nearly half of the plastic surgery residents were women. I think a career in plastic surgery is amazingly rewarding. I feel very grateful to have the patients I do, and feel honored to take care of them.

LATP:   What are the latest trends in plastic surgery that you see firsthand?

Dr. AP:  What I’ve seen in my practice is an increasing popularity in labiaplasty and buttock augmentation. The most popular procedures still remain the same- breast augmentation, liposuction, rhinoplasty, tummy tucks, and facelifts.

LATP:   Are there any recent scientific developments that you have incorporated into your practice?

Dr. AP:   There are constant refinements in each procedure I do. Not only do I make modifications based on my own increasing experience, but I also make sure to remain actively involved in the latest scientific meetings in plastic surgery to stay on top of the newest techniques.

LATP:   How is working with Dr. Jay Calvert?

Dr. AP:  It has been a great pleasure working with Dr. Jay Calvert. I have learned so much about rhinoplasty and revision rhinoplasty in a short amount of time with Dr. Calvert. That knowledge and experience really jump-started my own rhinoplasty practice and has given me the skills to tackle very complex rhinoplasty cases.

LATP:   Based on your experience, do you ever try to talk patients out of surgeries that might not be best or unnecessary?

Dr. AP:   I absolutely let patients know when I don’t think a particular surgery is in their best interests. Unfortunately this can be a difficult task. I consider it my job to educate a patient on what any given procedure can and cannot do for them. Just because a procedure is technically feasible does not mean it is right for each patient, or that it will give them the result they desire.

LATP:   After a surgery, what do you recommend patients do to continue on their path of self-love and acceptance?

Dr. AP:   Plastic surgery can be a powerful tool to improve self-esteem. The surgery itself does not fix life’s problems. However, it can enable a patient to see themselves in a different light, improve their confidence, and thereby project a different image to the world. After surgery, it’s important to allow time for both physical and emotional healing.

After the Nose Surgery

Following the surgery, you may be released the same day or stay overnight in the facility, but certain practices will stay the same. For one thing, your face will feel puffy, and your nose may feel congested, but you’ll be advised to avoid blowing your nose for seven days after surgery. You may also see bruising and swelling around the eyes; this is all perfectly normal following rhinoplasty.

One of the most important instructions following surgery is to rest, whether in bed, on the couch, or in a chair, with your head raised higher than your chest. The dressings will remain in place for anywhere from 1 day to a week; the splint or cast will be on for about a week, as well. You may still experience bleeding or dripping mucus after the dressing is removed, but this can be addressed by taping a piece of gauze under your nose. Take it easy for the first 24 hours; after that, you can try a little light exercise, such as walking. After two weeks, light aerobics or jogging is possible; you can blow your nose at this point as well. After three weeks, you can take up your usual leisure and recreational activities. You’ll have to wait several weeks before you can bend or lift heavy objects, and you should not engage in contact sports for at least six weeks. Of course, these are general guidelines. Laurie Coleman has had years of experience in the modeling business and it was her own struggles with doing her hair that led to the creation of the BLO and GO. After coming up with the concept and general design, she enlisted Hollywood PR man, Anthony Turk as her partner as well as actor/host Lee Reherman. Anthony Turk currently represents Lee Reherman as well as stars such as Eva LaRue, Adrienne Janic, Sunkrish Bala, Justin Chon, and many more.

With the creative talent of Laurie Coleman, Anthony Turk and Lee Reherman, the BLO and GO is destined for success. LAs The Place caught up with the always-on-the-go Laurie Coleman to get the inside scoop of the BLO and GO. 

LA’s the Place: How did you come up with the idea for the BLO and GO?

Laurie Coleman: I did runway for years.  While waiting to get my hair done before a show, I would rig up a coat hanger to the top of a door and arrange my hair dryer inside. This way I could get my hair started while the hair stylists were working on the other models. I then started doing this same ritual at home while getting ready to go out and while traveling. It just saved me so much time and energy.  I had two free hands to hold the brush and style. It was the next best thing to having professional salon results. About 4 years ago, a friend encouraged me to get serious about creating something to replace the coat hanger and so I invented the BLO and GO. 

LATP: Is this your first business venture or have you primarily stayed in the entertainment field?

LC: The BLO and GO is my first business venture.  I studied dance for years with the Minnesota Dance Theater which eventually lead to runway and acting.  The arts were always my passion and focus.  I never thought that a business venture could be something that I was passionate about but I feel a lot of passion for this product because it is a part of me!   

LATP: Is your target market the United States or do you want to create an international sales campaign?

LC: Currently we are working on the US market but soon we will be heading international.  We are already talking with distributors who work in Europe, South America and Asia.  No matter what part of the world you are in, women get this product and it is universal for all women.  Pretty soon the BLO and GO will be everywhere.

LATP: Are you projecting your sales primarily from women or do you think men will order as well?

LC: Obviously this product is geared towards women.  Women are the ones who blow their hair out.  That being said, I know a few men who use the BLO and GO and I am encouraging anyone who wants to save time and bring convenience into their lives to buy one!  Men can also gain points by buying a BLO and GO for the special gals in their lives!

LATP: Have you looked at the ‘power-of-the-Internet’ for sales or is this going to be a television ad campaign only?

LC: We are really proud of our TV spot.  You can see it on www.BLOandGO.com.  We are also getting great feedback from people who view the spot but we are relying heavily on the internet as well.  I am learning so much about search engines and working with other product related sites and how they can help sales.  The internet has changed a lot and it is making a huge impact on the way people shop.  Yes, the internet is so powerful and we are using it as a major tool in getting this product out to the world!

LATP: This product seems like a must for the Hollywood A-List as well as models around the world. Have you had any celebrity response on the BLO and GO?

LC: My business partner is a celebrity publicist so we will soon be getting product into the hands of some TV and film actresses.  In fact one of our print models for the BLO and GO is Adrienne Janic, the host of TLC’s OVERHAULIN’. Although getting this in the hands of celebrities is nice, our most important goal is to make our customers across the world feel good about themselves and feel like celebrities! 

LATP: Do you have any competition for this product or is this a one-of-a-kind?

LC: In doing our Patent research, we have found that there have been similar attempts at related products but what we have been able to accomplish with the BLO and GO is a sleek design, that is light weight, portable and can easily attach to most smooth surfaces.  Our product when attached to a mirror allows you to dry and style from above the head, mimicking the salon experience.  We feel we have achieved the best design in the BLO and GO.

Do you Suffer from Sleep Apnea?

Diagnosis of Sleep Apnea

After a history and physical exam at the Snoring Center, and sleep apnea is suspected, then a sleep study would be ordered. The sleep study may be done at one of their affiliated sleep labs or a home sleep study might be ordered.
