together with @NBCOlympics, hosted the first-ever Olympics “Social Opening Ceremony.” The send-off celebration took place in a perfect setting at Santa Monica’s Jonathan Beach Club and included a traditional Brazilian BBQ dinner.

Seacrest will host NBC’s late night Olympics coverage from the iconic Copacabana Beach, talking to Olympic athletes, capturing Rio’s unique flavor, and telling the stories of the day like he does so well. Last night gave everyone a sneak peek at the new late night show!

The Opening Ceremony of the 2016 Olympic Games Airs Friday, August 5, at 7:30 p.m. ET/PT on NBC

Legendary Team USA Olympians including Tara Lipinski, Dawn Harper-Nelson, Jason Lezak and Janet Evans joined Seacrest for a brief chat about the upcoming games.

Many NBC stars were at last night’s festivities including Melissa RiversMorgan Stewart & Johnny Drubel (Rich Kids of Beverly Hills), GG Gharachedaghi & ShervinRoohparvar (The Shahs of Sunset), Kristine Leahy, Akbar Gbaja-Biamila & Matt Iseman (Co-Hosts, American Ninja Warrior), and Colton Dunn & Nichole Bloom(Superstore).

One of the purposes of the beach event was to social media users to get into the spirit of the games. Several popular social influencers including iJustine, Hannah Bronfman, Justine Skye, Marianna Hewitt, Flula Borg, BuzzFeed’s “The Try Guys,” and TheStaceySun also attended the event for Brazil-themed trivia, and to spread the Rio excitement to their fans online.
