Dr. Jay Calvert, a world-renown Board Certified Plastic Surgeon, and part of the distinguished group of doctors at the Rox Center in Beverly Hills, CA, attended the Advanced Aesthetic Rhinoplasty, Otoplasty and Facial Contouring meeting in St. Petersburg, Russia on October 23th through 26th.

Not only was he an invited speaker, but as a surgical highlight of the meeting, as he performed a complex secondary  rhinoplasty with rib cartilage, diced cartilage, and deep temporalis fascia for a Russian patient. Dr. Calvert pioneered the technique of diced cartilage and fascia for the bridge of the nose with his mentor, Dr. Rollin Daniel.

“I am honored to be part of this prestigious meeting. The meeting organizers have assembled a world-class faculty” said Dr. Jay Calvert.

Dr. Jay Calvert is frequently invited to speak at congresses around the world including being a regular speaker at the IMCAS meetings (Paris, Shanghai), Beauty Through Science (Stockholm), Vegas Cosmetic Surgery meeting, and many others.

This meeting was especially significant because it was held in St. Petersburg at a time when political tensions are high between Russia and the United States. However, Dr. Jay Calvert notes that the camaraderie between the Russian plastic surgeons and the American plastic surgeons is at an all-time high.

The operation Dr. Calvert performed was a case of a short nose with a scooped out bridge and over-rotated tip. He used rib cartilage to restructure the nose and diced cartilage and deep temporalis fascia to build the bridge.

This technique allows the surgeon to rebuild the dorsum using the patient’s own tissue while creating a natural appearing nasal bridge. The other issues Dr. Calvert had to contend with, were the scarred tissues at the bridge of the nose and in the middle vault where the nasal valves are.
