Interview with Dr. Travis Kidner, a Surgical Oncologist and a Board Certified General Surgeon practicing at the Dr. Travis Kidner in Beverly Hills, California.

Can you tell us about your medical and education training?

Dr. Kidner: I’m originally from a rural town in Ohio. I did my medical school at University of Cincinnati, College of Medicine and then I started general surgery at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. While I was there I was accepted to the Research Fellowship Program at Memorial Sloan-Kettering, where I spent a year working on biron oncolytic therapy. After that I finished my general surgery training at Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California.

At that point I was a Board Certified General Surgeon but I did additional training at the John Wayne Cancer Institute in Santa Monica, California where I became a surgical oncologist. After my two years of training of surgical oncology at the John Wayne Cancer Institute in Santa Monica, California, I joined the Rox Center where I am a surgical oncologist and board certified general surgeon preforming all areas of general surgical oncology, but really focusing on breast cancer and melanoma patients.

What exactly is a Surgical Oncologist?

Dr. Kidner: A surgical oncologist is someone who has completed general surgery training and then proceeds to perform two additional years of training in surgical oncology. During those two years time is spent doing research and also working with medical oncologist and radiation oncologist to provide a multidisciplinary approach to the care of surgical cancer patients.”
