Children of War Foundation, in cooperation with the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles and the University of Southern California (USC), links acclaimed U.S. surgeons with deserving candidates. Eligible children in other countries are transported to the United States, with the Foundation taking care of their travel arrangements and accommodations. For those children who can’t travel, the medical team will come to them in an international mission, when multiple cases are handled during the visit.

The Surgical Friends Foundation and Children of War Foundation have merged their expertise, manpower, and influence to create a united front in benefiting the world’s children and young adults who bear physical deformities, whether from congenital causes, through the ravages of war, due to post-traumatic events, or because of other causes. Together, they are now known as the Children of the World Foundation.

Dr. Drew Ordon, Lois Aldren

Founded in 2009, Surgical Friends Foundation has operated on more than 100 children and young adults from across the globe and the country, and the group hopes to touch millions more lives. Started by Dr. Jay Calvert, Dr. Kami Parsa, and Dr. Andrew Ordon (seen on the nationally telecast “The Doctors” TV show),  and Anita Patel, M.D., Marc Kayem, M.D., Kevin Brenner, M.D., and Ritu Chopra, M.D. are the physicians behind the organization, and with their reputations, they’ve attracted yet more highly-trained medical minds to the mission. Together, they’ve created a system to identify, treat, and follow up with patients throughout the transformative process.

Children of War Foundation was formed to help the frequently forgotten victims of extreme violence and conflict around the world: the younger generation. These children are subject to physical injuries, mental impairments, displacement, and death, to name a few. Their fates are often worse than those of the soldiers and military at the front lines. Even more tragic, they’re far removed from health services and medicine, and they must go untreated. Today, Children of War Foundation has expanded its mission to provide donated reconstructive surgery and post-operative care to any child living with a physical deformity or injury that cannot be treated in their home country.

The foundations come from deep roots in Southern California, and their influence now reaches both domestically and internationally. Thanks to gifts and donations from foundation supporters, the surgeons behind the mega-organization donate their time and knowledge to the patients for free, and the patients are treated without charge. So far, Surgical Friends have trekked to Cambodia, Haiti, St. Vincent Island, and Bolivia to care for children affected by landmines, earthquakes, and genetic irregularities. In turn, the patients are able to enjoy a regular life, which is especially important in countries where children with deformities are not allowed to attend school.

Dr. Calvert specializes in primary and revision rhinoplasty, breast augmentation, and face-lifts for patients in the Beverly Hills and Newport Beach at Rox Surgery Centers and beyond. Dr. Andrew Ordon
Dr. Andrew Ordon may be best known for his appearances on “The Doctors,” the Emmy-nominated daytime talk show, but before the masses came to know him on television, he ran a private practice in aesthetic and reconstructive surgery in Beverly Hills and Rancho Mirage, California. Dr. Ordon graduated from medical school at the University of Southern California, then received further training in general surgery and head and neck surgery at USC, UCLA, and Loma Linda. His training program in plastic and reconstructive surgery was completed at the well-respected Lenox Hill Hospital/Manhattan Eye and Ear Infirmary in New York City. www.Dr.Ordon.com

Dr. Kami Parsa
Also an alum of the University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine, Dr. Kami Parsa volunteered as a reconstructive surgeon on numerous missions for separate organizations. As a result, he was inspired to create his own surgical foundation available to all those suffering physical deformities, whether those patients lived in the United States or overseas, and without concern over the exact form of reconstructive surgery. Dr. Parsa is an oculoplastic and orbital reconstructive surgeon, with a specialty in plastic and reconstructive surgery around the eyes and face. He completed his residency training at USC, followed by a fellowship in oculoplastic and reconstructive surgery at the University of Miami’s Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, the No. 1 eye hospital as ranked by U.S. News and World Report. In addition to his work with the Surgical Friends Foundation, he has a practice located in Beverly Hills.
