13 Black Cat Designs

13 Black Cat DesignsNikki Cutro is the fine artist behind the name 13 Black Cats Designs. She is also the co-founder/partner of the Artisan Group. Nikki has always been an artist however she has not always acted upon it until 2007 when three major life upheavals caused her life to take a turn she was not expecting. She began illustrating and painting again with watercolors and decided to post some work online with a company called Zazzle not expecting that much in return. When her work began to sell she began to take it seriously. Just recently she took her two loves, painting and jewelry making and combined them to make unique wearable art. Each piece is hand-painted on canvas, signed and then set into a pendant. Her website is www.13BlackCatsDesigns.com a name she chose because she thought two typically “unlucky” things could cancel each other out to make something lucky.

the crimson poppy

The crimson poppy began in 2009 when Jenny Jafek-Jones – “the gardener” – made origami flowers for her own May wedding. She liked the whimsical result, but thought, “wouldn’t it would be cool if the flowers looked real.” And so she started down the path to the incredibly lifelike flowers she makes today. Entirely self-taught, Jenny found patterns online and in turn-of-the-century craft books, but real flowers are her true inspiration. (When family members bring flowers home, they put them away for fear that Jenny will pull the blossoms apart to reveal more of Mother Nature’s mysteries.) the crimson poppy offers more than 100 handcrafted flower varieties – roses, daffodils, tiger lilies, peonies, you name it – as well as beautiful wedding bouquets and custom arrangements; unique gift roses made from vintage sheet music or treasured family photos; pins, hair combs, and other accessories; and Do-It-Yourself Paper Flower Kits. Flowers from the crimson poppy have been featured in BRIDES, Southern Weddings, Paper Runway, and now at gift lounges at the 2012 Golden Globes and Academy Awards. Jenny has done weddings for couples from New York to California, and she ships her blossoms and DIY kits all over the world from her little shop of paper flowers in Stillwater, Oklahoma, where she lives with her husband, daughter, and eighteen pairs of scissors. www.thecrimsonpoppy.com
