Koi Restaurant, known as one of the hottest celebrity hangouts, is not only trendy but also has a philanthropic side. Koi is donating 50% of the proceeds from sales of new menu items to the U.N. World Food Programme at all three Koi locations – Los Angeles, New York, Las Vegas until August 14, 2011.

Why East Africa?

Nick Haque, Chairman & CEO of Koi Restaurants, has been moved deeply by the devastating drought and recent declaration of famine in East Africa.  Doing their part to eliminate this ongoing crisis, Koi is debuting two new menu items that 50% of the sales when guests order them will go to the U.N. World Food Programme (wfp.org) relief efforts through Just A Little Foundation.

Two New Menu Items

Make sure you order these two new menu items at Koi Restaurant to do your part as well: the Edamame Dumplings, savory edamame-filled dumplings and fresh lobster served in a decadent mushroom-mirin broth ($18), and the Just A Little Shot, a fruit infused Sake featuring Pineapple, Watermelon, Honeydew and Cantaloupe ($4).  Both menu items were inspired by the fusion of flavors from across the globe.

Just A Little Helps ALOT

World Food Programme is the world’s largest humanitarian agency fighting hunger and funded in part through voluntary donations such as those that will be raised by Koi though August 14, 2011.

Gahl Hodges Burt, one of the Directors at Just A Little and former Reagan White House Social Secretary, said, “I cannot remember the last time I watched the news and tears came to my eyes, as they have these last few days seeing the images of this crisis in Somalia.  Nick Haque and others are stepping forward to help the truly helpless.   We must all find our Just A Little so that combined, we can do A Lot.”

Seems like a bit of irony, but eat up at Koi in Las Vegas, Los Angeles, and New York so others can too.
