Presented with a massive cake – a 5-foot-long, 3D-replica of the original “Love Boat,” Pacific Princess created by the ship’s pastry chef – crew members, family and friends were all present to sing the famed actor “Happy Birthday.”g

One of the longest-running television shows in history, The Love Boat cruised through ten seasons from 1977 to 1986 and is still in syndication in 92 countries worldwide.  This year also marks MacLeod’s 25th anniversary serving as Princess Cruises’ spokesperson.

Fun quotes from Gavin MacLeod at his 80th birthday celebration:

“Well, today Princess Cruises is celebrating my 80th birthday, my 34th year of traveling with them, my 25th year of representing them, it’s a wonderful day, and I wish everybody 80 years old could be as happy and fulfilled as I am.”

On the turning the BIG 8-0:

“The only thing that sort of alarms me is the number 80, eight-zero. I feel like I’m 60 years old, sometimes I don’t even feel like that, sometimes my kids give me advice, you know what I mean, they’re older than I am in many, many ways.”

On the 5ft.-long Cake:

“About 64 hours to build this cake. It’s a marble sponge cake, a heavy cake, with sugar decorations, marzipan over fondant covered with white chocolate.”  “This cake is magnificent, everybody’s been applauding the cake!“

On Betty White and Cloris Leachman:

“And Betty [White], look at Betty today, and Cloris [Leachman], look at Cloris today, how wonderful that they are going the way they are going.”

“I know, they’re the “it” girls. To me they were the “it” girls 50 years ago. I first saw Cloris in a Broadway play, and she was absolutely radiant and sensational, and the next time I saw her I was working with her on a show called the Road West where we actually had to embrace, so that was a great thrill of mine, and then eventually the Mary Tyler Moore show. And Betty, I first saw Betty… I’ve always said Betty should be declared a national treasure, I’ve been saying that for 40 years cause she starred in ‘Life with Elizabeth”, The Betty White Show, and look at her today.”
