Natacha Atlas – New Album Mounqaliba Review

International superstar Natacha Atlas has launched her new album Mounqaliba on Six Degrees Records. As a follow-up to her most recent classic Ana Hina, Natacha Atlas has taken this new body of work to a new level of excellence. Still using traditional Arabic music as a base, Natacha has infused the infamous Zeitgeist: Addendum movie dialogue as a prelude to many songs indicating a deep meaning behind the music. With the English translation of MounqalibaBeing in a State of Reversal, Natacha hints at the world community moving in a backwards direction.

Watch this interview with Natacha Atlas:

Mounqaliba is co-produced by violinist Samy Bishai and features composers Zoe Rahman and Jocelyn Pook. Plugging in Nick Drake’s “Riverman,” and Francoise Hardy’s “La Nuit est Sur La Ville” this album takes you on a musical journey as well as a spiritual and a slightly political one.

With a combination of musical influences, Natacha shines with superb vocals and a cast of incredible musicians. This album is without a doubt the most serious piece of music produced by Natacha Atlas since her collaboration with Marc Eagleton on their classic Foretold in the Language of Dreams.

With the Zeitgeist Addendum preludes on the album, it seems to add a spooky element that makes you wonder if society is really on a downturn. A basic economic fundamental is if you sell something that has a higher value than what you paid; economy itself keeps growing and can never collapse. With this new CD by Natacha Atlas, the value far exceeds the purchase price so it takes a failed monetary system and adds a new twist.

Perhaps the Zeitgeist fans should all purchase a copy of this so they understand a government’s printed money system is no match for song writing and musical talent so things really are not that bad! Better yet, let’s get a copy to President Obama so he can understand printing money and creating debt for future generations is just an excuse for a lack of talent. Natacha Atlas for President!
