Martyn Lenoble and fiancee Christina Applegate are hosting this year’s 5th Annual Surfrider Foundation Celebrity Expression Session on Sat., Sept. 11 in Malibu at First Point, Surfrider Beach. This event will be a part of the Malibu Surfing Association’s MSA Classic.

Surfrider-Foundation“The Surfrider Foundation is a fantastic organization doing great things for our beaches and coastlines,” Lenoble said.  “We are extremely excited and honored they approached us to host and surf in the Celebrity Expression Session.”

In past years, the Celebrity Expression Session has been promoted by the likes of Brandon Boyd (lead singer of Incubus), Jason Mraz (American singer/songwriter), Minnie Driver (Academy Award-nominated actress) and Eric Balfour (singer/actor). Other supporters included Jeff Bridges, Cameron Diaz, David Duchovny and Jack Johnson who recently teamed up with Surfrider for his 2010 To The Sea concert tour.

So far the events have raised more than $10,000 toward the Surfrider Foundation, a grassroots initiative designed to clean and protect the oceans. The organization was founded in 1984 by a group of surfers yearning to keep the large bodies of water fresh.

“It’s great to see these celebrities, all of whom are tremendously passionate about our beaches and coastlines, coming out to support the organization,” says Matt McClain, Surfrider Foundation’s Director of Marketing & Communications.  “Of course being able to paddle out and have First Point all to themselves for an hour has got to be a pretty big incentive.”

The event revolves around a 45-minute free surf for the celebrities involved, and an opportunity for these personalities to raise money for the Foundation with sponsors awarding $100 for each wave caught and ridden.

Sponsors include California’s own Barefoot Wine and Cali Bamboo. Based in San Diego, Cali Bamboo is a manufacturer of eco-friendly building products for commercial and residential areas. Jeff Goldberg and Tanner Haigwood started the company in 2004, which primarily uses the sturdy and durable bamboo for its products.

The Malibu Surfing Association was founded in 1961, and admission to the Classic and Surfrider Foundation Celebrity Expression Session is free.
