Fashionable Orijyn Scarves and Shawls that Help the Hands that Create Them

Cash for your car

When you are out at night in an outfit you just can’t cover up with a sweater, keep warm and look fashionable in an Orijyn silk shawl. Unlike Chinese, Thai and Vietnamese silk goods, Lao silks are 100% handmade. From the first steps of cultivating the silk worms to weaving the finished piece, these silks are not touched by anything, but the most skilful of hands.

Orijyn silk scarves and wraps are eco-friendly, made from only natural dies made from seeds, leaves, roots, flowers, fruits, bark, and insects. Available in prices starting at $50, the scarves and wraps are available on a large scale of colors. Buddha Leaf, Kua Lao, and Rainbow Ikat among others are some of the brighter colors. Sulaboul Beige and Sulaboul Charcoal, plus more, are not the darker, but the earthier tones.

Orijyn

orijyn-shawlAs a fair trade, eco-conscious website, Orijyn.com offers handcrafted silk goods from the women weavers of Laos. All the proceeds go toward supporting the weavers, and a local nongovernmental organization. The organization, Saoban, offers technical tutelage, marketing guidance, and small loans to alleviate poverty in Laos and empower rural women.

Giving Back

Saoban helps the women of the rural villages stay home and make a sustainable profit. Usually women would have to leave their families to participate in urban silk co-ops, but not anymore. Saoban allows them to stay in their villages while making sustainable profit. Women now have a more unified voice at home, increased revenue for the villages, and inspired greater respect from the men.

By supporting these crafts, you help maintain the community culture and supply much-needed income. Your support in our silk scarves and wraps prevent families from having to move to the city where they will end up working low paying jobs. Your purchase goes directly to the person who made the piece you chose, along with the additional profits going to PADETC a non-profit alternate learning school in Vientiane, Laos. It will help provide PADETC with basic resources to prepare young leaders for their changing world.

Helping over 300 women weavers from rural communities in four provinces since 2005, Saoban has now allowed the women’s beautiful silk available online at Orijyn.com.
