Actor Kevin Sorbo, widely known for leading roles in the television programs Hercules, Andromeda and many more, will host his second annual Kevin Sorbo Celebrity Golf Tournament  at Dragon Ridge Country Club in Henderson, NV on October 8th and 9th. The event is held in support of A World Fit For Kids! , a Los Angeles based nonprofit organization dedicated to preparing young people for fit and fulfilling lives. Sorbo, whose relationship with A World Fit For Kids began in 1997, serves as a Chair and Spokesperson for the organization.

At first glance, it may seem impossible for the lean and muscular frame of the 6’3” Sorbo to loom any larger than it already does on theater screens or while towering over television cameras. Yet it is what happens after cameras stop rolling and theater lights dim, when his role as Spokesperson takes center stage, that Sorbo’s larger than life physical existence is overshadowed by his utterly human contribution.

Last year’s inaugural event was also held at Dragon Ridge Country Club In Henderson, a luxurious destination located just 14 miles from the Las Vegas strip. The two-day event attracted over 100 golfers and celebrities, including sports legends like Julius “Dr. J” Erving, Ed “Too TallJones, Jim McMahon, Franco Harris and actors Dennis Haskins, Christopher McDonald, Patrick Warburton and Paula Trickey.

The event included a Friday night dinner and party at Planet Hollywood with comedic performances from Mike Burton and Gary Valentine. Saturday’s golfing extravaganza was followed by a celebratory dinner on the Las Vegas Strip with a live and silent auction of dream gifts, including sports memorabilia, Ritz-Carlton vacation travel packages, amazing golf weekends and more. Capping the event was a private concert by country recording artist Steve Azar and R&B musician Javier Colon.

Driven by the momentum of the inaugural tournament, this year’s event promises more excitement with the return of many of last year’s participants and the scheduled attendance of celebrities like Meat Loaf, John Ratzenberger, Gregory Itzin, Joel Gretsch, Henry Cho, and Bruce McGill.

A World Fit For Kids!

With fifteen years of service, A World Fit For Kids! has impacted the lives of over 130,000 students through their advocacy of cooperative empowerment and articulation of tangible, positive life habits and choices.

A recipient of the prestigious 2007 Gold Medal from the CA Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports, the success of A World Fit For Kids! is defined by a mentoring program that trains teens to become heroes to the kids in their own neighborhoods by using the vehicles of school, fitness, sports, and positive role models.

By promoting the ideal that learning is enhanced through trying to explain what you’ve learned to others, the “kids teaching kids” methodology provides teens with responsibility and self-esteem while offering younger children mentors and positive role models. A World Fit For Kids! changes two lives with just one act; matching an adolescent eager for purpose with a younger child enthusiastic about learning from someone that has an authentic understanding of their community.

A Focused Approach

It’s an all too familiar battle in today’s society; parents are engaged in a constant struggle to drag children away from monitors and off of couches while guiding them onto playgrounds and toward face to face interaction. World Fit For Kids! targets these life skills that are increasingly neglected by promoting the values of physical fitness, communication and creativity. Their purpose is the facilitation of physical activities that are safe, meaningful and fun with the goal of promoting youth development, leadership and experiential learning.

For teens and college students, the program addresses:

Fitness
Personal development
School graduation rates
Job skills
Job readiness
Mentoring
For younger children, the program focuses on:
Fitness
Homework assistance
School connectedness
Mentoring

A World Fit For Kids! is a charitable 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization and all donations are tax-deductible. The organization continually seeks funding and support with the objective of expanding their program nationally and ultimately internationally.
