Poland’s brightest and best filmmakers and actors flocked to Hollywood, the Mecca of cinema, for two weeks at the 10th Annual Polish Film Festival in Los Angeles. The Festival opened with a gala reception and screening at the Egyptian theater in Hollywood of “Perfect Guy For My Girl” directed by Tomasz Konecki and starring Marcin Dorocinski, Magdalena Boczarska, Izabela Kuna, Danuta Stenka, Krzysztof Globisz, and Daniel Olbrychski. Screenings took place at the Laemmele Theater and the Steven Spielberg Theater from April 22nd – May 3rd. Here are a few of the films that won the coveted 2009 Polish film awards:

Pola Negri (named after a Polish silent film star) Industry Night held at the stunning Kress Event Center rooftop was the official celebration of the festival, awarding Scott Wilson, the American actor most recently seen in “Junebug”, the 2009 Pola Negri recipient for collaboration with Polish filmmakers. The smash hit event was produced by Royalty Rope Events, Inc. and sponsored by the Kress and Marani Vodka.

The Polish Film festival, is a labor of love and dedication by Vladek Juszkiewicz, of Polish birth, who has made it his mission to introduce the films of his native land to American audiences since 1999. The festival offers an infrequent opportunity for many Polish-Americans who live scattered all over LA to gather in celebration of their artistic heritage. Some even come from as far away as San Diego, San Francisco and Arizona. Each year the festival grows with more exposure, screenings and prestgious attendees.
