Charities Ruled at the GBK Gifting Suite for the 2009 Golden Globes Awards

GBK Productions hosted their 4th Annual Golden Globes Gift Suite at the 9900 Club (previously known as the Friar’s Club) in Beverly Hills. This year’s GBK gift bag was filled with one-of-a-kind artwork, trendy fashions, accessories, trips health products and beauty products. But the charities ruled the day; GBK’s Gift Suite benefited this years chosen charities: Isaiah Washington’s Gondobay Manga Foundation, Educating Young Minds, Hollywood Note Foundation and Terrance Howard’s St. Bernard Project.

Owner and CEO of GBK, Gavin B. Keilly, stated: “We are looking forward to not only honoring the 2009 Golden Globe Nominees and Presenters for their accomplishments with the various interesting gifts, but we are also excited to introduce them to our benefiting charities. It’s a win-win for all involved”.

As well, 20% of the profits from this year’s suite will go to the four chosen charities: Hollywood Note Foundation, Gondobay Manga Foundation, The St. Bernard Project and Educating Young Minds. One GBK celebrity gift bag (valued at $35,000) has been given to each charity, for them to auction off the bag at various fundraisers, thus, giving more awareness to each charity. isaiahThe Gondobay Manga Foundation

The purpose of the Gondobay Manga Foundation is to provide improvements for the people in Sierra Leone. One village is approached at a time in order to achieve the best results. Road building, electricity and water supply are some of the tasks that this foundation provides for the people of Sierra Leone.

The Gondobay Manga Foundation also provides internships in the United States and elsewhere, ranging from academic related work to community involvement. Tropical Disease Research, Women’s Health Issues, Agricultural Development and Mechanized Farming, The Plight of Child Soldiers, Urban Planning, African-American Studies and History of the Trans Atlantic Slave Trade are the topics that are being pursued by this charity.

Isaiah Washington, who is the first African American to be granted full African citizenship, was at the GBK Gifting Suite promoting his Gondobay Manga Foundation as well as ancestry DNA testing. Mr. Washington thinks everyone should get their ancestral DNA tested to see where their roots take them. Educating Young Minds

The Educating Young Minds Organization was formed in 1987 when Angeles Echols, an elementary school and community college instructor was asked to tutor children. This non – for – profit organization, has grown from 1 student to over 2000 spanning from the ages of 5 through 18. There are a variety of amazing programs offered for kids nearly every day of the week.

Not only does this organization provide a variety of educational classes, they also offer counseling, information and assistance in financial aid and college scholarships. The programs offered are: Home or Independent Study, After-School Program, The Saturday Program, The Summer Program and the College Scholarship Program. In 2005 when Hurricanes Katrina and Rita struck through the Gulf Coast, St. Bernard Parish, a community, adjacent to New Orleans was completely destructed. Over 27,000 homes were said to be uninhabitable. The goal of this charity is to remove the barriers for families who wish to re-inhabit their homes in St, Bernard Parish, Louisiana. This community based, non – for profit organization runs three major programs: Center for Wellness and Mental Health, Senior Housing Program as well as the Rebuilding Program.

Zack Rosenburg and Liz McCartney are the founders of this organization, which began in March of 2006. There are numerous ways to help the people who lost their homes and possessions during the awful natural disasters. Donations, volunteering and spreading the word are just a few ways to help this organization.

Hollywood Note Foundation

This is a non-for-profit organization that is designed to contribute to the global philanthropic endeavors of the Hollywood community.
