Restaurant Charlie

As you enter Restaurant Charlie you immediately experience the beautiful, expansive dining room, boasting 20-foot tall ceilings, a walk-through wine cellar and areas for semi-private and private parties. For a truly unique experience, the Kitchen Table Skyloft is available. Large enough for a group of 8, this stainless steel and glass space, which hovers above the kitchen, offers diners a bird’s eye view of Chef Trotter and his staff preparing magnificent meals for their guests. A spontaneous tasting menu is offered. Restaurant Charlie’s Sommeliers will be on hand to customize a wine pairing for each course. Obviously this table books months in advance, so guests who want this unusual experience will have to plan ahead.

Charlie Trotter has dedicated himself to excellence in the culinary arts. As one of the most revereRestaurant Charlie menu itemd chefs in the country, he lends his brilliance to Restaurant Charlie, and the menu immediately reflects it. Before you indulge in your choice of entrée, there are a variety of wonderful items to begin the meal with. From Dungeness Crab Salad with Sake & Rice Milk to Oysters with Ponzu, Fresh Horseradish & Preserved Cucumber Vinaigrette to Traditional Caviar Service to Braised Octopus with Picholine Olives, Serrano Ham & Scarlet Peppers, there is no shortage of tantalizing choices.

The menu, largely a la carte, is not only filled with the finest seafood selections, such as Hand Harvested Sea Scallops with Emulsion & Yogurt, Poached Main Lobster with Yellow Curry & Lotus Root and Steamed Casco Bay Cod with Lemon Curd, but also offers plenty of choices for meat lovers as well, including organic Utah Lamb Rack with Braised Shoulder, Manchego Cheese and Cumin, and Seared 32-Day Dry Aged Rib Eye with Roasted Garlic, Fingerling Potato Puree and Rosemary, among other most exquisite choices.

Guests also have the option of sampling the Eight Course Tasting Menu, which is comprised of small plates of current menu items offered in a progressive style.

Bar Charlie

Bar Charlie is an intimate, ultra exclusive seafood bar unlike any other. The counter-only dining area seats 18 guests. Here guests experience the ultimate Kaiseki-style Charlie Trotter culinary experience as they enjoy either an eight or fourteen course menu featuring the freshest, most delicate sushi, sashimi and other culinary creations, customized and prepared right in front of them. Given the limited seating available we suggest you book early in advance.

With their Fuji Apple Pie with Wisconsin White cheddar & Tahitian Vanilla Ice Cream, Pineapple Upside-Down Cake with Roasted Pineapple & Yogurt Sorbet or Milk Chocolate Cheesecake with Roasted Marshmallow & Milk Chocolate-Graham Mud, Restaurant Charlie makes sure every guest is satisfied from the beginning to the end of their visit.

Restaurant Charlie includes a full bar, which offers seasonal drinks, in addition to the more traditional cocktails. With two menu styles, Vintage pre-prohibition classics and modern, the bar uses the finest ingredient which change seasonally and showcases the unique talents of their mixologists.

 

Chef Charlie Trotter

Discovering his love for food in college (where he studied Political Science), Charlie Trotter began his career in the restaurant business as a waiter. He voraciously read cookbooks, began cooking for his friends and eventually began catering parties. After graduation, Charlie traveled around the U.S. and Europe experiencing all the best restaurants. He had found his calling. 

Upon returning from his travels, Trotter went back to catering and trained under some of the best chefs at Sinclair’s in Chicago. For over 20 years, the restaurant has dedicated itself to excellence in the culinary arts. Charlie Trotter’s Restaurant is innovative and progressive in the world of food and wine and has been instrumental in establishing new standards for fine dining. Charlie eventually opened his own restaurant, aptly named Charlie Trotter’s, which has wowed his Chicago patrons for over twenty years and has been touted as one of the best restaurants in the country.

His innovation and progressive attitude has earned him numerous national  and international awards and recognitions from prestigious institutions. Charlie Trotter’s was inducted into the Relais & Chateaux in 1995 and became a member of Traditions & Qualité in 1998. The restaurant has also received Five Stars from Mobil Travel Guide, Five Diamonds by AAA and ten James Beard Foundation awards including ‘Outstanding Chef’ in 1999′ and ‘Outstanding Restaurant’ in 2000′. In addition, Wine Spectator named the restaurant ‘The Best Restaurant in the World for Wine & Food’ in 1998′ and ‘America’s Best Restaurant’ in 2000.

Chef Trotter expanded his empire in 2000 by opening Trotter’s To Go, a gourmet retail shop in the Lincoln Park neighborhood of Chicago. His culinary expertise can also be sampled by those flying Untied Airlines First and United Business to Europe and their transcontinental flights or United First to Asia, can select cuisine specially created by Chef Trotter.

Charlie Trotter’s restaurant in Chicago, which opened in 1987, was named as the 30th-best restaurant in the world, and 5th-best in the United States in 2007 by the well-respected “Restaurant Magazine”. It has also made the prestigious Gayot’s Top 40 US Restaurants list every year since 2004. He also produces a line of private label organic products, has written 14 cookbooks, wrote three management books.

Not only is Charlie Trotter a renowned chef, but he is also a respected philanthropist. Although he never attended culinary school himself, Charlie has established the Charlie Trotter Culinary Education Foundation, which gives out scholarships to students entering culinary programs. He also founded the Excellence Program, allowing high school students to come in and experience his cuisine, while also talking to and learning from his staff. 

For his work with his Culinary Foundation, Chef Trotter has received awards at the White House from President George Bush and Colin Powell and was named one of only five “heroes” to be honored by Colin Powell’s charity, America’s Promise. In 2005, Chef Trotter was also awarded the Humanitarian of the Year award by the International Association of Culinary Professionals for his overall service to the community.
