Drew Harwood and Your Core Beliefs Coaching in Los Angeles, CA
Drew Harwood, a Core Energy Coach certified through iPEC (Institute for Professional Empowerment Coaching), talks with LAsThePlace.com about “Your Core Beliefs”, his coaching practice focusing on medical traumas and strategic SEO Marketing.
LATP: How did you get into SEO (Search Engine Optimization) Marketing Strategies?
Drew Harwood: Marketing is truly a science. I really started to understand this when I started my own business. You know you have to market and get your services or product out in front of your target market, but how? Which is the best way to market to the public? In the past, if you were to ask 10 people the best way to market, you could get 10 different answers. SEO has been around for the last decade, but it’s only taken off in main stream marketing within the last few years. It is the way of the future. It was the one area I, like most people, didn’t understand but wanted to get a well rounded education on Marketing. Once I saw the value and how easy it is to get started for any size business, I was hooked. It has been very rewarding to help educate and watch the incredible results blossom for my clients.
LATP: In your experience, what do you think Retail, Real Estate, and coaching have in common?
Drew Harwood: When I was 18, I started working at one of those Warehouse stores. I was quickly promoted and was thrust into, and very quickly I might add, to learn that there are many different personality types, and certain way to interact with each one to get a successful outcome. Those 8 years gave me the BEST practice scenario’s in dealing with the public as well as fellow employee relationships. This is where I discovered I had a “knack” to quickly understand the type of person I am dealing with and what is the best way to give them what there looking for, while making my job easy and rewarding. Real Estate was yet another level and a rewarding field to hone my “knack” of reading and listening to what people wanted. My coaching “tool box” is full of 20 years of practicing to listen to people, but more importantly hearing what people, now my clients, aren’t saying. I’ve always taken pride in all my jobs or positions within companies. My intention has always been to help people. I’ve found coaching is the outlet that I have been searching for, to let me use my experience as well as keeping my intentions clear and being left with the feelings of gratitude and the rewards from helping people.
LATP: In your coaching sessions, what are some reoccurring themes that you find most of your clients are working on?
Drew Harwood: I think when you get down to the core of your feeling and beliefs that you have held close for many years, a reoccurring theme would be clients having the need to re-learn to “live their truth”. I like to have clients ask themselves “What is my truth?” in any given situation and listen or feel for what comes to them. The next step is to act on it. Imagine what life would be like if we all lived every moment of our lives, coming from a place of “what’s my truth?”
LATP: What inspired you to become a coach?
Drew Harwood: From when I was in my early 20’s, I’ve always had family, friends and colleagues, tell me “you know … you missed your calling, you should have been a Psychologist or a Therapist” What’s different with Coaching and why I believe I gravitated towards Coaching and not the other professions is that Coaching is unique, it’s always coming from a place of non-judgment. It’s nice working with a client with the knowing that they have the answers inside of them, even though most clients in the beginning don’t think so.
LATP: Using your unique approach to coaching, how do you help your clients go from “victim” to “victory?”
Drew Harwood: This is a great question, and I think it comes down to a basic tool which might sound like a simple thing to accomplish for a client, but it depends on how big of a victim they see themselves to be. The idea is to get just a little shift in the client’s beliefs or feelings they have attached to what is causing the victim energy. I ask my clients to “what is the opportunity in the situation?” or “what opportunity has come from having this situation in your life?”
Shortly after the client starts to recognize or see positive things that have come from the situation that, up until this point has made them feel helpless or victimized, a shift occurs and puts a crack in that victim mentality they have fallen into. The more the client works on seeing “opportunities” in all area of their lives, they can pull themselves out of the victim hole they fell into, and that’s a powerful process for a client to undertake and accomplish.
LATP: Overcoming cancer of any kind is having a second chance at life, how has this affected yours?
Drew Harwood: Incorporating my brain tumor diagnosis into my everyday life as well as preparing for and recovering from Brain Surgery was a life changing experience to say the least. You have to practice what you preach, I had to look for and recognize what opportunities are coming out of this experience to help me grow as a person. Funny thing is, today four years later, I’m still adding things I learned or realized out of that experience to the list. Today I’m grateful for the experience; it helped facilitate the changes necessary to get me on the path I’m on now. In a nutshell, the surgery for my brain tumor allowed me to work on myself and get to a place where I live each day with gratitude. I am now living in the present moment with a philosophy of “we’re all on our own path; live it and experience each day with grace, gratitude and love.” Remember, we’re all responsible for creating our own life path and living it fully.
