At 43 years of age with illness or sickness going back over 20 years, at times feeling like an 8o year old, needing a cane, chronic pain, chronic fatigue, ibs, and a very long list of multiple diagnosis, treatments, bad experience with medicine, multitude of doctors and so on, I have practically given up on getting well and staying healthy unless I take action to do so for myself. Medications used as a first line of treatment has destroyed my body, cellular damage is difficult to repair. Naturalist or homeopathic treatments are costly and unaffordable. So as a proactive patient invested in my own health, I have had to learn my body and how it reacts to external elements, food, medication, and take an active approach to educating myself on my conditions and alternate treatments. We are told as patients to speak up, educate ourselves etc, but many doctors do not like educated patients who ask questions that undermine their authority as the doctors, whereas, it should not be misconstrued as a threat to their knowledge, expertise, or otherwise, instead a consideration for all relevant information about said patient to coincide with overall treatment.
I am fortunate compared to many and less fortunate than some however, chronic illness is equivalent to chronic stress, and that affects the body and its functioning. Medical practioners have repeatedly told me to eliminate stress, not to worry, it is nothing, its all in your head, and many other negative things, whereas it is with prayer and hope that I am able to really trust doctors again. My trust is in God to heal my body, and lead me to the doctors who do his work with full hearts instead of full pockets. If I lived in California I would head over to see you, at this time I do what I can with multiple illnesses and seek out partners as doctors who treat the whole patient. Cannot imagine living to old age for if I have felt as I have at a young age, imagining old age in this vessel is just too disheartening. May you be blessed as you help others obtain and maintain health. My hope is not in the world but in God and He being the ultimate physician.

Wow, Dr. Holtorf -- Your practice sounds a lot like Hormones by Hart, by Cheryle Hart, M.D. As a patient of hers I have heard that she is moving to the Bay Area or East Bay. She is looking to open up a bio-identical hormone practice. That would sure be great if you two got together!
