The American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC) hosted over 250 guests at their star-studded Generation Making a Difference Event in support of the Jewish Community in Cuba, Thursday night. Hosted by Jackie, Jamie and Michelle Flesh, the JDC’s event was attended by Nikki Hilton, David Katzenberg, Mischa Barton and other hot celebs.

The Generation Making a Difference Event was held at La Bodeguita de Pico restaurant, where the JDC was able to raise over $62,000 for their efforts in Cuba. Underwritten by private party donors LA Direct Magazine, Heineken, and many others, 100% of the proceeds were able to be directly given to the JDC.

Since 1914, the JDC has set up programs all over the globe in order to fulfill the belief that all Jews are responsible for each other, by guaranteeing that all Jews in need are taken care of. The JDC helps answer the endless struggles faced by Jews all over the world including assisting Ethiopian Jews go to Israel, providing meals for Holocaust survivors in Eastern Europe, and helping Jews in Cuba to reestablish their religious tradition. The Generation Making a Difference Event will enable the JDC’s efforts in Cuba to meet the humanitarian, religious, and cultural needs of Cuban Jews. They will also provide assistance in rehabilitating Jewish communal institutions as well as train the local leadership so that Cuban Jews may run community activities independently.

The JDC consistently adheres to three operating principles. First they are non-partisan and apolitical, they seek to empower local communities by creating model programs and training local leadership to run programs to better their communities, and they build coalitions with strategic partners who will ultimately assume responsibility for the programs. The JDC has also provided humanitarian work for more than just Jewish communities. In June of this year they carried out humanitarian aid efforts for victims of cyclone Nargis just after it hit Myanmar in May. On top of their assistance in Cuba, they are currently working to provide aid to assist in the rescue and relief of Jews affected by the military action in Georgia. The JDC works around the world to make life a little brighter for those in need. Their Generation Making a Difference event was merely one more program to demonstrate such overwhelming support for their amazing work. For more information on the JDC please visit www.jdc.org
