Tracy Austin Teams Up For Health
Tracy Austin is no stranger to professional tennis, on or off the court. A petite 45 year old blonde hailing from Palos Verdes, California, Austin won the U.S. Open women’s singles title in both 1979 and 1981 as well as at Wimbledon in 1980, and remains heavily involved with her sports commentating for tennis. But her career did not begin there.
Courting Her Past
At the tender age of 10, Austin nabbed the U.S. national 12-and-under title and shortly thereafter took the title in Portland Oregon at age 14, making her the youngest player to ever win a professional tournament. It was only later that year that Austin played at Wimbledon against Chris Evert and unfortunately lost. However, she managed to bounce back in 1979 by bringing Evert’s winning streak to a halt in Rome.
Remaining unstoppable, Austin went on to win the Wimbledon mixed doubles with her brother John in 1980, and eventually earned the title of the number one singles player during that same year. At Toronto’s Canadian Open in 1981, she won against Navratilova and Evert, also winning the U.S. Open against Navratilova.
Unfortunately, a series of back injuries prevented Austin from continuing her career, and by 1983 she had retired. She was the youngest player inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 1992.
A Fabulous Face, the Safe Way
These days, Austin has set her sights on a new way to take care of herself. She and fellow tennis player Lindsay Davenport have teamed up as the faces of Juvederm’s "Decades of Smooth" campaign. "Juvederm contacted me, and wanted to know if I’d like to be involved, and the fact that I’ve been using it for about 3 years now was a perfect match, a win-win", Austin explains. Though the two women are about a decade apart in age, the painless injectable gel is suitable for any type of woman or man looking to reduce lines and wrinkles near the nose and mouth. And with the increasing popularity of high definition television, it is no wonder that Austin is a major fan of Juvederm.
Yet smooth skin is not the only reason Austin takes pride in representing Juvederm. She has and will continue to be an avid sunscreen user. She refuses to let her children leave the house without sunscreen, even on an overcast day. She stresses that "the more you can cover up, the more you can stay away from the sun, the better off you are. I’m not saying be crazy about it, but I think it’s important".
In the meantime, Tracy Austin will be kept plenty busy, covering the upcoming U.S. Open and fulfilling her favorite job of all, being a fabulous mother to her three boys.
