The Next Generation of Stadium Rock: Phoenix Block

Phoenix Block is collectively four unique individuals who create an unquestionably amazing sound. Through the band’s gripping music and words, one can truly sense the desire and passion that drives the members and fuels the energy encompassed by their groundbreaking new debut full-length album, "Chemtrails". LA’s the Place chatted with all of them about life, love and the pursuit of making it big in this business.
LATP: Andrew, you and Steve began songwriting a long time ago. Tell me more.
Andrew: Well, music has always been a primary focus for Steve and I. Having older siblings, we were exposed to rock music when we were really young. Together, we formed our first band at the age of 11, which also consisted of writing and recording original songs.
LATP: Andrew, tell us about the early days in music.
Andrew: We started by playing live gigs in high school like Battle of the Bands type stints. As we gained more experience onstage, we learned to embrace live music. By the time we were playing clubs in New York’s Greenwich Village, we had really refined our skills.
LATP: What bands are your biggest influences, Steve?
Steve: My taste in music started when I was young. While most kids my age were watching Sesame Street, I was into The Beatles, The Eagles and of course Bruce Springsteen (another Jersey boy like myself).
LATP: The Beatles and Eagles, interesting… So who have you not collaborated with that would be a dream come true?
Steve: Andrew may have a different answer, but hands down, Paul McCartney for me.
LATP: Tony, in all your travels, which city do you think offers the best scene for music?
Tony: We have always been into New York because of the powerful energy it gives off.
LATP: Darrell, what can your fans get out of a live show?
Darrell: Our music emits energy from the first note of the intro in “Future Calling” to the driving drum beat in the opening of “Tear Us Apart.” We find that the crowd feeds off this energy and really gives it back. We always say how it is really a kind of symbiotic relationship.
LATP: What does Phoenix Block do with any spare time?
Steve: Play bingo
LATP: In one word, describe Phoenix Block.
Tony: Passionate
LATP: What’s next?
Darrell: Following the August 2008 release of “Chemtrails,” we will be touring the radio circuit and playing live dates to better connect with our fan base.
