DaNica Takes Home the Trophy at the First Total Pop Star Finale
On Sunday, June 29th, a pop star was born. After intense months of online singing challenges, Total Pop Star cr
owned their winner. DaNica, from Red Lion, PA, blew the audience and the judges away with a heart wrenching performance. The crowd, as well as the celebrity judges (Deborah Gibson, Joey Lawrence, Andrew Van Slee and Annette Ducharme) seemed to know immediately who would take home the victory of being the first Total Pop Star winner.
The celebration was underway with a live pre-show party hosted by the lovely Ashley Noel while The Perry Brothers provided the spinning beats. The competition began and each of the six contestants took the stage to perform an original song written by the creator of the show, Andrew Van Slee and fellow songwriter Annette Ducharme. Van Slee initially got the idea for Total Pop Star while watching YouTube videos and American Idol. "I just thought, why not combine the two? There is so much talent out there." Van Slee and the other judges agree that Total Pop Star is a great competition because it literally allows anyone with access to a computer and a webcam the ability to share their talent with the world.
As DaNica was announced the winner, balloons and confetti enveloped her on stage and everyone in the audience seemed just as excited as she was. Deborah Gibson gave her a congratulatory hug, followed with hugs of
encouragement for the other five contestants. "When I came in to this room today, I had someone else in my head as the winner. But, she completely changed my mind with that performance." Looking around the room, Deborah was obviously not the only one who was amazed by DaNica’s undeniable voice that rivals such diva powerhouses as Christina Aguilera and Mariah Carey.
DaNica received a prize package and recording contract with XMG Records. The prize package totaled to a worth of over $150,000. Not only did she proudly get to go home with a TPS official trophy, DaNica also received $2500 cash, two all expense paid trips to London and Hawaii, a Toshiba laptop, a Sony handicam, an IPod Touch and Jam Jacket, a Canon Powershot, Bose headphones, a Sony Digital Voice Recorder and $100 gift card to ITunes to top it all off!
