Nylon Magazine and MySpace Bring the “School of Rock” Issue to Life

Every month I get excited when my Nylon Magazine arrives in the mail. My favorite issue is the annual “School of Rock” music issue. The latest and greatest bands are featured and wonderful editorials are on every page.

Misha BartonNylon, along with MySpace, brought the pages of the June “School of Rock” issue to life. The entryway of the Public Storage on Santa Monica Blvd was a giant magazine cover – so as I walked through the giant curtain of Scarlett Johansson I entered into a fantasy world.

Mischa Barton, Nicky Hilton, Emile Hirsch, Audrina Patridge, Eliza Dushku, Aimee Osbourne, David Katzenberg, Brittny Gastineau, Cory Kennedy were some of the guests treated to a unique 3D experience with interactive elements to literally walk through.

I walked through the make shift hair salon where hair touch-ups were being done by Bumble and bumble and continued into the Levi’s denim-bar that displayed the classic cuts and of the moment colors. It felt like a modern day take on Andy Warhol’s infamous ‘factory” only with a lot more color.

Every person there, famous and other wise, was a feast for the eyes. Everyone lived up to the beautifully eclectic Nylon image and dressed with fashion and personal style in mind.

As I grabbed a specialty cocktail, provided by VeeV and Red Bull, I watched real rock stars play fake rock stars as they lined up to the multiple Rock Band stations around the room. The music only got better when the real bands took the stage.

Live performances by The Like, TheNewNo.2 and music by Brent Bolthouse on the turntables made even the most serious hipster move their feet.

All and all it was a magical night – especially for those of us who will never grace the cover of a magazine.
