The North Shore Animal League Finds Homes for Hundreds

Every spring, cats and dogs that have not been spayed or neutered give birth to countless puppies and kittens, overwhelming shelters all over the country with unwanted litters. The North Shore Animal League is gearing up for another life saving season helping hundreds of puppies and kittens find homes and getting

much needed information out regarding the plight of all sheltered pets.

 

The North Shore Animal League is the world’s largest no-kill animal care and adoption center, a tremendous organization of professionals and volunteers who stand up for pets and work to stop the tragedies facing orphaned animals and animal cruelty. This month, in lieu of Spring’s arrival, the Animal League is working overtime to raise awareness about the importance of spray/neuter with it’s Campaign to Save Pets’ Lives.

Animal cruelty is another one of the League’s major concerns and they work to raise awareness of its widespread tragedies. All too often, loving animals become victims of human cruelty. Whether its active cruelty like abuse or passive cruelty like neglect, the tragic results are the same.  North Shore is actively taking a stand against animal cruelty and you can help! Another wonderful thing that the North Shore Animal League America understands is the intimate relationship between people and their pets. Thus, they’ve created a program where people with special needs, who can’t necessarily care for an animal, can still enjoy the emotional closeness and physical rewards of being close with a pet doggy or cat. Also, the League participates in all sorts of fun events every season to help raise awareness about orphaned animals. This month, the 8th annual Tour for Life is kicking off on the 26th. Tour for Life will send out “Rescue Rovers” across the nation to bring the League’s life-saving mission on the road and help find homes for pets in need.

In November, the League’s very own spokesperson, Beth O, is running to save pets’ lives in the NYC Marathon! Beth says she’s thrilled to be running the marathon and is excited to put together a team to run for all the dogs and cats that need our help. And what’s more fun than music and celebs? Tour for Life 2008 is starting up with Grammy Award winning singer, dancer and actress Mya. The star is going on the tour with the North Shore Animal League America to spread their life saving mission across the nation. You can also get involved in the League by registering free with AnimalAttraction.com.  For each registration, Animal Attraction donates one dollar to the North Shore Animal League America as well as one dollar for each friend you refer and one cent for each day you log in.  On AnimalAttraction.com you can use chat rooms, message boards, view and share photos of your pets and make lots of pet pals all while supporting the League. In the last two weeks 2,000 people registered on Animal Attraction. Go to AnimalAttraction.com and help them make a difference!

Of course you can also help out immensely by becoming a desperately needed foster care family for May Litters. On Saturday April 26, 2008, Tour for Life ends with a "Grand Finale" event hosted by Mýa at FAO Schwarz in New York City, where celebrities will be perched in the world-famous toy store windows with frolicking puppies.
