Author Chuck Adams Strives for ‘Something More’
Twenty five years in the making, ‘Something More’ has been a labor of love for author Chuck Adams. A story about the strength of the human spirit and the power of true love, ‘Something More’ centers on the fictional romance between Bobby Sanders and Kimberly Wells.
Describing his book as a cross between ‘Ironside’ and a Nicholas Sparks novel, Adams based ‘Something More’ on a true story. "Bobby Sanders is my Rocky Balboa", say Adams. Born with a severed spinal cord, Adams created the main character Bobby Sanders as a reflection of himself. Like the author, Bobby is paralyzed, but his drive, passion and heart are thriving.
As the first wheelchair bound student to complete grades K-12 in the Mattituck, NY school system, Chuck began his writing career covering high school sports for his local newspaper. Not one to let his disability limit him, Adams participated in school plays, captained his college wheelchair basketball team, carved out a successful business career and currently covers sports for the Times-Review Newspapers and co-hosts the weekly sports cable show, "The Hot Stove League."
Turning his personal hardships into a novel about striving for more than what you’re handed, this father of two penned a story about two college students who meet on a cruise to St. Thomas. The story’s hero, Bobby, comes complete with a string of failed relationships, while the heroine,
Kim, is engaged to an abusive boyfriend. Looking for more out of life, Kim and Bobby meet and fall in love. But even though they share a magical week together, Kim forges ahead with plans for her wedding to someone else.
Adams’ novel tells the story of their first meeting and the eleven years that ensue. During their years apart, Bobby immerses himself in his dream job of covering the New York Knicks for the Madison Square Garden SportsDesk and becomes involved in uncovering an NBA betting scandal and the mysterious death of a socialite. But while his career thrives, his love life stalls. As for Kimberly, she stays in her abusive relationship and loses her ten-year-old son to a car accident. After eleven years, they meet up again, and hope and possibilities ensue.
Completed in 2004, Chuck is now looking for a publisher and/or movie producer to take ‘Something More’ to the next level. Having never given up on his dreams, Adams hopes to share his story with the masses and instill hope and possibility in them all. "This is a story about finding something more in all of us…"
