Universal Studios Honors Emergency Workers During Tree Lighting Ceremony
On November 27th, Universal Studios Hollywood held a tree lighting ceremony in front of the walkway to the Terminator 3D ride. Honoring the heroes who risked their lives to save others in the recent Southern California wildfires, Universal Studios announced that from now until December 21st, all firefighters, law enforcement officials, paramedics, Red Cross employees and 911 personnel, will be admitted into the park free of charge.
Setting the tone for the holiday festivities, four carolers dressed in classic garb sang traditional Christmas songs to get everyone in the yuletide mood. After a few ditties were performed, including Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, the main event got underway.
Calling up Battalion Chief Mike Flocks, Mrs. Claus came on stage to deliver roses to him and light the six story, movie-themed tree. A special ornament was also hung by a firefighter commemorating the heroes who fought in the recent wildfires. Once the tree was lit, the night was capped off with firemen, who were sitting on a ladder overhead, throwing fake snow on those below them.
All credentialed emergency personnel are eligible to receive this special gift from Universal simply by showing their employee photo ID at the park’s box office.
