Alex Band’s Donate Life Rocks at the Hard Rock Cafe
"Think this line is long?" The question was phrased within footprint decals on the red carpet leading to the Hard Rock Café of Universal City Walk October 26th. The much longer line that the message was meant to present: the line for Organ Recipients.
The Cause
The second annual Alex Band’s Donate Life Rocks was held to benefit Donate Life America, a non-profit organization dedicated to inspiring people to save lives through tissue, eye and organ donation.
The Festivities
In addition to an endless line-up of talented musicians and a silent auction, there was a pre-show party for pediatric patients from both Cedars-Sinai Medical Center Comprehensive Transplant Center and UCLA Health Systems. At the conclusion of the children’s party the Halloween concert/party began.
An unforgettable evening of music, laughter and inspiration was hosted by emcees Robbie Robfogel (liver recipient) and KNAC.com’s Diana DeVille.
The entire night was huge Halloween fun as Pirates, Superheroes, and Celebrity impersonators filled the Hard Rock to support the cause and unite in the music. Winner of the costume contest was local Gil as Jimmy Hendrix, who made his costume complete with a guitar, but won a brand new one signed by the bands.
Musical Entertainment
The endless line up of talented musicians included Johny Bullet, new CBS Recording Artist Keaton Simons, and singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Beau Black. Shane Hines and The Trace performed to promote their new album, Zoe, and Metal Knights (featuring Robbie "Razor" Robfigel) covered everyone’s favorite 80’s metal songs with a special appearance by Pamela Moore of Queensryche.
American Idol’s Constantine Maroulis pumped up the crowd with songs from his recently released self-titled solo debut album. Off-stage he mingled with fans and grabbed some stylish new duds from the night’s sponsor, Ed Hardy Shoes.
Acknowledgments
The evening’s hosts were joined by Geffen recording artist and lead singer of The Calling ("Wherever You Will Go"), Alex Band to present writer, director, producer and creator of the Child’s Play franchise, Don Mancini with the first "Quiet Giant" award given by Donate Life America in recognition of Mancini’s part in aiding the fight against cystic fibrosis.
Alex Band then took the stage for his much anticipated set. He won the heart of everyone in the crowd with undeniable talent in his words and his voice. Band even broke out some hits from his band The Calling, but watch out for even more hits sure to come from his first solo record due out January 1st, 2008.
The Entertainment Didn’t Stop
Newly reunited, multi-platinum, alternative rock trio Eve 6 performed a set of smash hits ("Inside Out" and "Here’s to the Night") as well as some great new material the band has written recently that left fans begging for more. They will get more eventually. Frontman Max Collins revealed to us that a new album was in the works, but could not confirm a release date.
Actor Erik Palladino of NBC’s "ER" showed Hollywood that he has what it takes to cross over with his band, Hearing Red.
