Hollyween Art Exhibit: Hollywood Meets Halloween

Actor, Daniel Franzese’s "Hollyween" art exhibit, featuring the work of 45 artists, opened last Friday, October 12, 2007 at The World of Wonder Art Gallery on Hollywood Blvd.  The collection consists of primarily original paintings and prints with a combined theme of Hollywood and Halloween.

Some examples include Bob Lizarraga’s portrait of the talking devil fortune teller from the popular Twilight Zone series with Jack Nicholson’s head on it (complete with fortunes with some of Jack’s more famous movie quotes) and Julie E.’s pencil drawing of Angelina Jolie’s face on the head of The Creature from the Black Lagoon.

The opening went off with a bang, complete with the Halloween music stylings of Tokio Bar’s DJ Skyler, cocktails, and some of the attendees even wore costumes for the occasion.  It was a lively atmosphere that attracted a young, hip crowd that matched the theme of the artwork.

FrankensteinOverall, the collection is fun, humorous, and deliciously morbid.  The work of Ken Dougherty, which bares a resemblance to that of celebrated artist Tamara de Lempicka who also portrayed her women with large, luminous, green eyes, is particularly compelling.  Also of note are the two Frankenstein pieces by Bob Lizarraga and M. Harpe.

This would be a great exhibit to attend for those who wish that Halloween came more than once a year and are looking to purchase art with a darkly humorous bent.  If you’re in Hollywood and looking for a cultural activity with a Halloween theme you must check out "Hollyween."
