Aspiring Filmmakers Catch Their Lucky Break in the Scion Easy 10 Film Series
The Entertainment business is always looking for the next biggest thing – the next biggest pop star, chick-lit novelist, or teenage heartthrob – but never before have a car company and marketing agency come so thrillingly close to hitting the mark. Scion and malbon Brothers Farms (mBF) have joined forces to select 10 fledgling filmmakers for the independent film circuit through the Scion Easy 10 Film Series. The project, now in its first year, creates 15-20 minute films by pairing members of this elite class. Each short film will premiere in Los Angeles and New York and join Scion’s Route Film Series in August of 2007. In addition to this exposure, each filmmaker chosen will attend three film festivals of their choice with support from Scion. This partnership promises an excellent yield from many different arenas in film, from documentaries to fiction. The ten filmmakers chosen for this year’s circuit are David Choe, Chris Cruse, Blue Davis, Roger Gastman, Monihan, Reza Moosavi, Nemo, Jack Pearley and Dennis White, and were selected for their originality, as well as their revolutionary style and subject matter. Jeri Yoshizu, Scion sales and promotions manager, says that "this is a unique opportunity for these artists to showcase their originality, test new waters, and begin to make a name for themselves as filmmakers."
Scion will screen all 10 films in an exclusive premier once at Sandbox Studios (250 Hudson Street, 11th Floor) in New York on August 2, and once in Los Angeles (screening information coming soon). After each screening, there will be a meet and greet with the innovative filmmakers at a VIP reception.
Select films will also be shown before each Route 07: Scion Independent Film Series screening, which launches in September of 2007.
