Experience The Fine Art of Modern Cuisine at “eatz. at the desert” Restaurant
eatz. at the desert restaurant inside of the ultra-sleek and modern Hotel Zoso in downtown Palm Springs mimics the aura and essence of its surroundings. Sleek, sharp and cool, "eatz. at the desert" could rival any of the rigorously contemporary dining hotspots in Vegas and Los Angeles in both its interior design and food-forward menu.
Visually, "eatz. at the desert" is bathed in shades of gray with sharp pops of red which lends a sensual contrast to the ragged desert mountains hovering through the windows flanking the length of the restaurant. From the muted lighting design to the spare and unassuming artwork to the sharp rectangles of the folded linen napkins, no detail was overlooked in evoking a true modern aesthetic. In a town so often rooted in mid-century nostalgia, "eatz. at the desert" is sincerely committed to the dining expectations of today.
The one impressive homage "eatz. at the desert" pays to old Hollywood glamour is its cold, strong, no-nonsense martini. Chilled, dry and potent this aperitif is as severe as the contours of Hotel Zoso’s architecture.
In fact, it’s the perfect contrast to executive chef Juan Leon’s savory fare. His lovely menu features dishes prepared with fresh, local produce and specially selected meats and seafood.
For lunch hotel guests can enjoy the satisfying and eclectic mid-day menu both at the restaurant as well as poolside. The bay shrimp and avocado salad with spicy tomato vinaigrette has a refreshing citrus undertone while the BBQ chicken pizza with bell peppers and red onions is rich, balanced and filling.
The dinner menu carefully whets the appetite and then pays off the anticipation. From the crispy calamari with spicy remoulade to the onion soup with cheese crouton to the chef?s daily selection of oysters on the half shell, the dining experience is incomplete without an "eatz. at the desert" appetizer. As far as the entre, the menu is set up so that the diner selects one sauce, one vegetable and one starch with each protein. For example, you can pair the roasted pork loin with horseradish creme fraiche with the sauteed spinach and baked potato. Or, try the filet mignon with the peppercorn sauce, the garlic butter mushrooms and potato puree. For seafood, the grilled
Atlantic salmon pairs beautifully with the beurre mueniere (lemon butter sauce), the steamed asparagus and pommes lyonnaise. With their flexible menu "eatz. at the desert" not only accommodates your culinary preferences but also accounts for any potential dietary restrictions. In essence, your dining experience is custom made by design.
The only disadvantage with "eatz. at the desert" has to do with the stellar location of Hotel Zoso itself. Located right in the hub of downtown Palm Springs "eatz. at the desert" has to compete with the multitude of restaurants in it’s immediate surroundings. Guests shouldn’t be put off if the dining room isn’t swarming with clamoring patrons. Enjoy the serene, sleek calm of this culinary destination and let the raucous crowd overrun the casino down the street.
