?Yellow Face? to Premiere at the Mark Taper Forum in May
Celebrate the end of Mark Taper Forum’s 40th season with the world premiere of “Yellow Face”, a biting and funny new play about race and identity in America by Tony Award-winner David Henry Hwang. The wild satire places Hwang in the midst of the familial politics and international intrigue that erupt after a white actor is unknowingly cast in the role of an Asian. “Yellow Face” questions the motives of artists, journalists, Senate investigators and anyone who claims to pursue the “truth.” The result is a hilarious and provocative genre-bending play that will leave audiences pondering the value of racial identity versus cultural identity, issues of artistic and journalistic integrity and the very nature of reality.
The cast for “Yellow Face” includes (in alphabetical order) Julienne Hanzelka Kim, Kathryn A. Layng, Hoon Lee, Tzi Ma, Lucas Caleb Rooney, Peter Scanavino and Tony Torn. Directed by Leigh Silverman, “Yellow Face” features set design by David Korins, costume design by Myung Hee Cho, lighting design by Donald Holder, with sound design by Darron West. Casting is by Jordan Thaler / Heidi Griffiths and Erika Sellin. The production stage manager is James T. McDermott.
