New Years rang in with a touch of glamour at the Edison downtown. The historic power plant turned bar hosted a New Years bash that celebrated the renaissance of downtown’s night scene with grand style.

Hosted by comedian Jay Davis, the red-carpet event featured performances by The Edison Eddies, 13 Purple Dragons and Fredalba, as well as free-flowing champagne, a dessert bar, fun party favors and designer gift bags.

The inherent glamour of the Edison was the ultimate backdrop for a New Years bash. The three bar areas were all decked out in New Years Eve fanfare. While still a new bar, the Edison feels like the classic lounge that has been around since the glamour days of Hollywood. This is because Andrew Meiran has designed a world-class space that retains many of the architectural and mechanical artifacts from its history as Downtown LA’s first private power plant.  With it’s opening, it is ushering in a new era in Downtown nightlife.

Over in the red-roped VIP section, classy patrons enjoyed bottle service and unlimited champagne. Designer Miguel Torres, who created the one-of-a-kind bags for the gift bags, was there with his group of friends. All areas of the bar were packed with revelers sipping champagne or the Edison’s hand-crafted classic cocktails and wearing festive New Years hats and headbands.

The party really started when 13 Purple Dragons took to the stage. Fronted by actor Bokeem “bo” Woodbine, the rock band got the crowd dancing and ready to usher in the New Year. Girls dressed in minuscule outfits brought the wallflowers out of their shells and onto the dance floor as grooved to their rocking sounds. Their set ended right before the countdown to 2007, which went off with a bang complete with confetti and noise makers aplenty.

The new year kicked of with a performance by Fredalba. Lead singer Eric Balfour, an actor who will be seen in the upcoming season of “24,” rocked the crowd with funky and soulful rhythms despite the fact that his arm was in a sling. Eric and his band have just released their debut album, Uptown Music for Downtown Kids, with their first single “Gimme More” premiering on MTV.

After a fun and glamorous night, all VIP guests left with the Miguel Torres gift bag full of goodies. Valued at $200 each, the bags had exclusive offers from local high-end designers, restaurants, spas, gyms and boutiques.  It was the perfect way to start what is sure to be a fabulous 2007!
